St. Martin of Tours Team Wins 1st Place in Wisconsin Stock Market Game State Middle School Division Competition
Michelle Dean’s 8th grade team from St. Martin of Tours Parish School has won 1st Place in the Wisconsin Stock Market Game (SMG) 10 Week Stock Market Game state competition for the spring 2010 semester. 1st Place Team members include: Jacob Burzynski, Kelli Kontney and Rebecca Dawson. The team started the game with $100,000 to invest in stocks, bonds and mutual funds and ended the game with a portfolio valued at $139,905.16. Overall, a total of 1,388 teams from across Wisconsin participated. When I spoke to the winners Kelli Kontney and Jacob Burzynski, they both agreed that “it was a great way to learn the importance of watching your money day-to-day and to diversify your stocks as well”. They also both agreed that it was a fun experience.
On May 19th, 2010, a banquet will be held in honor of the winning members. At that time they will be presented with certificates, medals and a travelling trophy to the winning members and their advisor. Congratulations St. Martin of Tours School!
