YMCA Day Camp Site Offered at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Franklin

March 30, 2010

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee announced that registration is now officially open for YMCA day camp at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Franklin, located at 10101 S. 27th Street, Franklin, Wis. The YMCA day camp site in Franklin began last summer and allows families and employees throughout the Franklin area the opportunity to take their children to the convenient and safe YMCA Day Camp location.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee received approval from the City of Franklin last spring to open a YMCA Day Camp site at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Franklin. This opportunity allows the YMCA to extend reach beyond building walls and into the surrounding community. The YMCA is pleased to partner with Wheaton to provide programming in an existing building while determining the future needs of the community.

“We are thrilled to once again offer a YMCA Day Camp site at the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Franklin location. This will allow us to serve the Franklin community, and provide services for youth in the Franklin area,” said Jon Lange, Vice President of Program Services for the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. “We are grateful to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare for the use of their site and are excited to continue building on this exciting relationship between our two organizations.”

The Franklin YMCA Day Camp serves as the 15th site in the Metropolitan Milwaukee area. The camp will be held on Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare grounds, with building availability to staff and kids on days of inclement weather. All camps are fun, safe and help kids stay active all summer long. By attending YMCA Day Camp, children are offered the opportunity to make new friends, work on problem solving skills, decision making and learn teambuilding skills. In addition to the fun activities planned throughout the day, YMCA Day Camp teaches campers the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through programs that educate and provide a safe, healthy and positive environment.

To register for YMCA Day Camp activities, call 414-276-YMCA or visit our website at www.ymcamke.org/daycamp. Discounts available for additional children in the same family and scholarships are available for qualifying families.

The YMCA and Wheaton have a plan to build their second Healthy Lifestyle Village and the Briscoe Family YMCA on land donated by Northwestern Mutual. The collaboration between the two nonprofit organizations is focused on bringing significant prevention and wellness programs to the South Suburban Community. Fundraising for the project is underway.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee builds strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. Since 1858, Milwaukee YMCAs have helped kids and families live healthy lives in spirit, mind and body. Supported in part through contributions to the Strong Kids Campaign, the YMCA provides membership assistance and scholarships to programs like summer camp, child care and teen activities, so that no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
