A Local Girl's Dream - Biking Across the Country...Twice

May 24, 2009 | 0 comments

My story began five years ago when I started biking through a Girl Scout Camp in Merrill, Wisconsin. The trips started out short and became longer and longer. My first trip is where I met Shauna Stoeger who is from Hortonville, Wisconsin. Our first trip, we biked through the Chequamegon National Forest in Upper Wisconsin; our second trip we biked from Madeline Island back to the camp in Merrill; our third trip we biked the northern portion of the Lake Superior Circle Tour; and the fourth and last trip through the Girl Scout Camp was the southern portion of the Lake Superior Circle Tour. Because Shauna and I did not want our biking adventures to end, we decided to plan our own trip and in the summer of 2007, we completed the Mississippi River Tour from Lake Itasca, Minnesota to New Orleans, Louisiana. To hear more about that, trip refer to www.crazyguyonabike.com/pedalingprincesses. All of the above trips are a combined total of 3,751 miles.

Our next adventure planned for the summer of 2010 by itself will be a total of 4,316 miles. The trip will be from Anacortes, Washington to Bar Harbor, Maine. We are using bike friendly maps from www.adventurecycling.org. This trip will be completely self-supported unlike the previous trip where we had a support vehicle the whole way. For this trip, Shauna and I will be raising money for different organizations. Shauna will be raising money for Feed the Children and I will be raising money for the American Cancer Relay for Life that takes place in Franklin. I am looking for donations to help me reach my fundraising goal of $10,000+. I hope to raise additional funds by doing brat fries around the area and by selling t-shirts. If you would like to make a donation, please e-mail me at edill075@uwsp.edu.
