UW-Waukesha’s Continuing Education and Theatre Departments Collaborate with Cabaret Performance

March 7, 2012

WAUKESHA – The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha’s Continuing Education and Theatre departments present A London Capperet featuring Ryan Cappleman (Franklin), accompanist Adam Baus (Milwaukee), and special guest performers Kira Renkas (Waukesha), Candace Decker (Waukesha) and student filmmaker Connor O’Hara (Waukesha) on Friday, March 16 at 7:30pm. in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in the Fine Arts Center at UW-Waukesha, 1500 North University Drive. Tickets and parking are free to this event.

Cabaret singer Ryan Cappleman will share stories, song and dance of his UW-Waukesha Continuing Education London Theatre Tour (January 2012) study abroad adventures, in his one-man show.

Steven Decker (Waukesha), associate professor of communication & theatre arts and instructor on the London Theatre Tour encouraged Cappleman’s performance, “I assigned students taking the trip for credit a final project of their choice and really wanted them to look outside the box. Ryan is a performer so it was only natural for him to put his experience in London onstage.”

Accompanied by Adam Baus, Mr. Cappleman will perform a variety of songs that tell of his journey across the pond including There’s No Place Like London and A Foggy Day mixed in with contemporary favorites such as Love on Top and The Time of My Life.

Veteran cabaret artist Candace Decker who has performed her one woman cabaret shows Candy for the Holidays, Love, Candy and CANDY-641.853-A Library Cabaret throughout Wisconsin will be a featured soloist. Decker was also on the London Theatre Tour, “I have worked with Ryan onstage in the past and he has such talent, energy and passion that I know audiences will appreciate him and our London adventures.”

Cappleman feels cabaret is a great medium to share his experiences, “After seeing such incredible theatre in London I had to create something to express what the trip meant to me and my fellow travelers. Hopefully this will encourage other students and community members to study abroad or take an international trip in the future; it is life changing.”

Ryan Cappleman has a BFA in Musical Theater from UW-Milwaukee. He works as a performer, a choreographer, a music director, a pianist, and a teacher. His professional credits include The Tavern Keeper's Daughter with Skylight Music Theater and Milwaukee Chamber Theater, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Miss Nelson is Missing with First Stage Children's Theater, The Apple Tree with In Tandem Theater, and the upcoming Assassins with Windfall Theater. Cappleman has taught Musical Theater at First Stage, works with many high schools in the area and has appeared in numerous local productions including UW-Waukesha’s Little Shop of Horrors.

The UW-Waukesha Theatre Department presents a wide variety of productions. As a college theatre program, education is the primary goal, and shows are produced in a variety of genres. UW-Waukesha students, as well as students from other campuses, and community members are encouraged to participate in theatre productions.
