Sports Wrapups: Nov. 27

Nov. 27, 2012

Greendale boys basketball

Behind a sterling all-around effort from Jordan Perez, the Panthers downed South Milwaukee, 71-66, in their Woodland Conference opener on Nov. 20.

Perez tallied a game-high 30 points to go with nine rebounds and five assists for Greendale, which leveled its record at 1-1.

"He was phenomenal from the beginning," said head coach Ryan Johnsen. "He was all over the floor. He set the tone with his leadership. On offense, he attacked the basket, and he was active on defense. I think he is one of the most underrated players in the state."

Josh Ringelberg added 13 points, Cameron Rowe 12 and Josh Michaels 11 to lead a balanced effort.

The Panthers built a 41-27 halftime lead, then held the advantage throughout the second half.

"We were all proud of that victory," Johnsen said. "South Milwaukee is a good team."

Greendale welcomes St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, then hosts Brown Deer at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.

Ashley Markowiak dropped in a game-high 20 points to help the Falcons to a 56-52 victory over Brookfield East on Nov. 20 in the season opener.

Jackie Gruszka added 13 points with a trio of 3-point field goals and Ann Marie Bay put in 12 points for Whitnall, which saw a 10-point halftime advantage trimmed to just two points heading into the fourth quarter.

The Falcons then fell to Waukesha South, 50-44, on Saturday morning in the Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout. Markowiak tallied 21 points and Bay 14 points, but South, led by Lexi Weitzer's 20 points, prevailed.

The Blackshirts outscored Whitnall 15-8 in the deciding fourth period.

The Falcons visit Greenfield at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, then travel to Cudahy at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.
