Franklin girls basketball
Jenny Eickhorst hit six three-pointers and scored 23 points as the Sabers won their Southeast Conference opener, 77-36, over Racine Horlick on Dec. 4.
Franklin outscored Horlick, 24-5, in the first quarter and then never looked back as returning NOW Newspapers All-Suburban forward Cassidy Mihalko had 11 points and Sarah Neumann nine. A total of 12 Franklin players scored as the Sabers had 10 three-pointers, including two from Taylor Schell.
The Sabers (3-1 overall going into this week) then routed Kenosha Bradford, 61-24, in another SEC contest on Friday behind 13 points from Mihalko and 10 by Nala Mudd. Franklin was up 31-9 at the break.
The Sabers visited area rival Oak Creek on Tuesday.
Franklin boys basketball
The Sabers got a much needed boost in confidence when they routed Greendale Martin Luther in a 72-42 non-conference decision on Dec. 4 for their first victory of the season.
In the victory over Martin Luther, Franklin went up 18-14 at the quarter, but then outscored the Spartans 33-8 in the middle two quarters.
A total of nine players scored led by Nick Bobos and Colin Ksobiech with 15 apiece, while Andy Suvaka had 11 and Evan Kruczynski contributed eight.
The Sabers dropped a 57-54 decision to Kenosha Bradford on Friday night despite 23 points from Chad Kanugh and 13 by Bobos. Franklin was outscored 20-14 in the third quarter to fall behind by seven points.
The Sabers (1-3 overall going into this week) will welcome Racine Horlick at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
Oak Creek boys basketball
The Knights tipped Racine Park, 39-38, on Friday night to level their overall record at 2-2.
They welcome Racine Case at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
Oak Creek girls basketball
The Knights built upon a 31-21 halftime lead in downing Racine Park, 64-37, in a Southeast Conference contest on Friday.
Oak Creek improved to 2-0 in the SEC and 4-1 overall.
Greendale girls basketball
Emily Perszyk tallied 17 points as the Panthers downed Brown Deer, 45-40, on Dec. 4.
Maggie Bowen added nine points and Anna Klar eight for the Panthers, who trailed 24-20 at halftime but outscored Brown Deer 13-2 in the third quarter to take the lead.
Greendale then dropped a 50-43 contest to Cudahy on Friday night. The Panthers were outscored 17-4 in the first period and rallied, but fell short.
Natalie Burton collected nine points, while Perszyk, Taylor DeLong and Klar each put in eight points. Klar pulled down nine rebounds and Bowen eight, while Burton totaled four steals and Perszyk three assists.
Greendale (3-1 in the Woodland Conference, 3-2 overall going into this week) welcomes Wauwatosa West at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Former Panther standout Ashley Imperiale, the Tosa West coach, makes her return to her alma mater.
The Panthers missed five wrestlers with illnesses but still finished in third place at Saturday's Kenosha Christian Life Invitational.
"With our full team, I think we compete for the championship," head coach Robert LaPlante said.
Of Greendale's nine wrestlers, four went unbeaten at 5-0 on the day: Cameron Anders at 138 pounds, Sam Walton at 145, Jake Rosen at 152 and Dustin Donald at 170. Tommy Welch was 4-1.
Greendale went 3-2 in duals. The Panthers beat Chicago King, 40-21; Shoreland Lutheran, 48-36; and Cudahy, 39-30, and lost to Christian Life, 54-30, and Union Grove, 39-37.
They lost a Woodland Conference dual to Pewaukee, 62-6, this time with six wrestlers missing. Winners were Welch (8-2 on the season) and Donald (4-3).
The Falcons dropped Greenfield, 49-21, in a Woodland Conference dual meet Dec. 5.
Posting pins for Whitnall were Anthony Senthavisauk at 113 pounds, Dylan Kellner at 132, Nick Monte at 145 and Ryan Olson at 152.
Whitnall next competes this weekend at the E.H. Stech Invitational at West Allis Central.
Greendale ice hockey
Joe Jensen and Brady Kais each tallied a pair of goals as the Ice Force blanked Bay Port, 7-0, on Friday.
Brian Kennedy, Jared Hoffmann and Jakob Schappel all scored once and goaltender Konner Ondriezek made 14 saves.
Greendale lost a 4-2 decision to Lakeland on Saturday.
