Oak Creek's Hansen wins USTA scholarship

Emily Hansen of Oak Creek won an $8,000 College Educational Scholarship from USTA Serves, the national charitable foundation of the United States Tennis Association.

Hansen was one of three high school seniors from across the country to win the scholarship, which will be awarded over four years. It goes to seniors who have excelled academically, demonstrated a desire for community service and participated in a tennis program.

Eagles soccer team wins State Cup crown

The Croatian Eagles U-16 boys red soccer team went 3-0 to win its bracket at the Wisconsin State Cup on Memorial Day weekend.

The Eagles defeated the three-time defending state champion, 2-1, coming from behind in the second half while playing one man down. They also had to beat another team that had just defeated them four weeks ago in league play. They allowed only one goal in three games, winning by scores of 1-0 and 2-0 in addition to the 2-1 victory over the defending champion.

The team has had three different coaching staffs in eight months and struggled through last spring before Derek Marie and Bram Daelemans took over last year.

The Eagles played in tournaments in Las Vegas and Memphis, plus the PUMA Cup Championship and the Croatian Eagles Spring Tournament in Franklin.

Tryouts will be held June 25-26 at Croatian Park in Franklin, with registration at 5:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.croatianeagles.com or call team manager Mike Domitrz at (414) 810-3443.

Local players help Angels win baseball crowns

Bobby Smith of Oak Creek and Griffin Doersching and Chase Kendall of Greendale all played on the Milwaukee Angels U-13 baseball team that won the Waukesha Slugfest and McHenry (Ill.) Cobras Wood Bat Classic on back-to-back weekends in May.

The Angels went 5-0 at Waukesha and 4-1 at McHenry.
