Whitnall girls swimming

The Falcons finished third in their own Fountainwood Funfest Invitational on Saturday with 319 points.

Senior Lauren Zurowski came in second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.93 seconds, and the 200 freestyle relay team of senior Leah Jenk, junior Jill Kolasinski, junior Mary Sullivan and senior Leah Windt was also a runnerup, finishing in 1 minute, 49.12 seconds.

Taking third were senior Sarah Arteaga in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.85) and the 400 freestyle unit of Jenk, senior Rebecca Wigington, Windt and Sullivan (4:08.6).

The 200 medley unit of Kolasinski, Arteaga, sophomore Lizzie Streim and Zurowski finished fourth (2:03.86).

Claiming fifth were Windt in the 200 freestyle (2:10.78) and Kolasinski in the 100 backstroke (1:10.9).

Muskego won the meet with 502 points, and Wausau East took second with 387.

Franklin girls swimming

The Sabers opened their season finishing ninth in the Wauwatosa West Early Bird Invite on Aug. 18.

The Sabers scored 126 points for their spot as Brookfield Central won with 299.

Divers led the way for Franklin, as sophomore Katrina Vogue was second with 360.15 points and senior Melanie Pearson was third with 353.25.

Other noteworthy efforts for the Sabers: 200-yard individual medley - sophomore Jourdan Lepkowski, 10th (2:32.71); junior Elizabeth Herrick, 11th (2:34.38); 100 butterfly - Lepkowski, 12th (1:09.45); 500 free - junior Rowan Liederbach, 13th (6:22.46); 100 breaststroke - Herrick, ninth (1:18.75).

Franklin will be at the Racine Park Invitational at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Franklin boys soccer

The Sabers opened their season with an impressive 11-1 rout of West Allis Central on Aug. 16.

Scoring goals for the Sabers were Zachary Konz, James Yang, Gunther Doubek, Austin Koska, Josh Martens (2), Lazar Petrovic, Pablo Guzman, Joe Polka, Brad Wieland and Daniel Peyer.

Guzman and Yang had two assists each.

After taking on Greenfield on Aug. 22, the Sabers will visit Greendale on Saturday in a 6:30 p.m. tilt.

Oak Creek boys soccer

The Knights opened their season with a 4-0 win over area rival Greendale on Aug. 14.

Oak Creek got two goals apiece from juniors Dylan Johnson and senior Dakota Slone, while juniors Chirstian Alfaro and Esai Perez had an assist apiece.

The Knights will be at South Milwaukee at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and then in the Cudahy Tournament on Saturday, taking on Wisconsin Lutheran and Whitnall before visiting area rival Franklin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Freshman Carolyn Jungers won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 16.78 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 56.06 seconds at Saturday's Fountainwood Funfest Invite.

The 400 freestyle relay unit of junior Lizzy Pekar, senior Emily Barutzke, sophomore Carolina Rowe and Jungers came in sixth (4:19.44).

Junior Megan Elliott placed seventh in the 500 freestyle (6:33.09) and eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:29.85). The 200 freestyle relay squad of Barutzke, sophomore Abby Vey, sophomore Tess Knezic and Pekar took eighth (2:04.37).

Greendale claimed seventh place with 143 points.

Greendale boys soccer

The Panthers began the 2012 season with two losses, 4-0 to Oak Creek on Aug. 14 and 3-1 to Waukesha South on Friday.

Senior Cody Serrano came up with 11 saves in the Oak Creek game.

"We had some nice opportunities on goal in both games," head coach George Knezic said, "but we need to put the ball in the net. Defensively, our positioning needs to improve with more depth, since the team speed does not match with the opponents' forwards."

Franklin girls golf

The Sabers were 13th of 14 at the Mukwonago Invitational on Aug. 13.

At the Mukwonago meet, the Sabers turned in an 18-hole score of 465 as Racine Prairie won with 336.

Freshman Megan Hessil led the way for Franklin with a 102 mark, while sophomore Kaitlin Bowe came in with a 106, freshman Kristin Bowe 127, junior Alyssa Darst 130 and senior Maggie English 147.
