Whitnall sophomore qualifies at sectional

Oct. 25, 2011 | 0 comments

Greenfield - Alex Richardson will represent Whitnall High School at this year's WIAA Division 1 State Cross Country Meet.

The sophomore finished sixth in a sectional race on Saturday at Greenfield Park in 16 minutes, 29.76 seconds, earning the third of five individual qualifying spots to the state meet.

He will run at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Richardson nearly had some company from his Whitnall team. Mitch Olson, a senior, placed 10th in the sectional with 16:47, just two spots out of qualifying.

Tyler Centers claimed 36th place (17:33), Derrick Yimsut 44th (17:44), Pat Wyrowski 52nd (18:14), Mason Howard 69th (19:12) and Blake Stencil 74th (19:52).

The Falcons tallied 148 points for seventh in the 12-team sectional field, which was headed by Brookfield Central's 67 points.

The Whitnall girls also just missed having a qualifier, as sophomore Jasmine Van Tine came in 12th (16:02), one away from the final spot, which was taken by Muskego's Leanna Barr (16:00).

Also for the Falcons, Zora Marinkovich placed 57th (17:50), Lydia Pincsak 62nd (18:04), Carly Cardenas 68th (18:26), Mika Topitzes 78th (19:38) and Rachel Bruesewitz 80th (20:27).

Whitnall scored 277 points for ninth place in the team standings.
