Franklin baseball is headed to the state tournament for the second year in a row after a 4-3 win this afternoon against South Milwaukee in a WIAA sectional final in Cudahy.
Franklin fell behind early after the Rockets took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Sabers starter Ryan Geil settled down and didn't allow a run over the next three frames.
Franklin got a run in the third to cut the lead to 2-1 and took the lead for good with a three-run, five-hit fourth inning.
The big hit in that inning was delivered by Adam Kaniewski, who had a two-RBI single. Evan Walton later drove in a run with a single that gave Franklin a 4-2 lead.
South Milwaukee scored one run in the fifth, but that was as close at the Rockets could get.
Franklin will take on New Berlin West in a quarterfinal game Wednesday at the state tournament in Stevens Point.
