Franklin track

Derek McElroy won three events for the Sabers at the Oconomowoc Runoff on Friday.

McElroy teamed with Will Campbell, James Pitcher and Phillip Guilbault for a victory in the 3,200-meter relay in 8 minutes, 23.77 seconds, joined Lance Baretz, Takuto Kobayashi and John Janicek for first in the 1,600 relay in 3:30.15 and claimed the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 6 inches.

Also victorious were Mahmoud Dakwar in the 1,600 (4:52.24), Jenny Eickhorst in the 400 (1:03.01) and Katelyn Thomas in the 300 hurdles (49.48).

Oak Creek track

Rafael Saez added two more victories to his season tally by picking up wins in the shot put and discus at the Hartford Invite on Friday.

Saez dominated the field in the shot put with a 54-8 3/4 , more than 11 feet better than the runner-up. That wasn't nearly as impressive as his margin of victory in the discus where his winning distance of 147-6, more than 33 feet farther than his nearest competitor.

Thomas Overland added a victory in the triple jump (43-0 1/2 ) as did a pair of relays off the girls team: Lauren Carranza, Cassandra Grant, Alyssa Parker and Carly Fehler in the 400 (52.55) and Hannah Saunders, Megan Buse, Taylor Clementz and Megan Gray in the 3,200 (10:35.38).

Greendale soccer

A pair of goals by Briana Pawlowski and one each from Lauren Rutkowski, Mara Kuzmanovic and Amanda Jonas carried Greendale to 5-0 win at Greenfield on May 13, improving the Panthers' league record to 6-3 (6-8 overall) as of Tuesday.

The win snapped a five-match losing streak.

"This young team has played respectable against Whitefish Bay, Brookfield Central and Tosa West," Greendale coach George Knezic said. "I feel we have a chance to end up in third place behind (Eisenhower) and Tosa West in the Woodland."

Whitnall soccer

The Falcons continued their push toward a .500 winning percentage with a pair of league victories last week.

Thanks to a solid effort from the defensive back four of Alyssa Mofatt, Brittany Kenaston, Colleen Barnstable and Megan Regeth, and goalkeeper Lisa Donaldson, Whitnall pulled out a 3-1 home win over South Milwaukee on May 13, to improve to 4-5-1 in league play as of Monday.

Dana Steffen tallied a first-half goal and Sara Mogensen added a pair in the second half for the Falcons.

In a 9-0 blowout over visiting Cudahy/St. Francis two days earlier, freshman Gabrielle Weis' goal three minutes into the match got things going for the Falcons, who also received three goals from freshman Tina Gaggioli, two from Steffen and one each from Mogensen, Alyssa Fine and Rachel Nasby.

Whitnall's winning ways continued at the Milwaukee Lutheran Tournament Friday and Saturday with two wins in three tries to improve to 6-10-1 overall.

After losing to Racine St. Catherine's, 2-0, in the tournament opener, the Falcons beat West Allis Central, 5-0, and Campbellsport, 3-2, thanks to Stephanie Voekel's corner kick that snapped a 2-2 tie.

Mogensen had four goals over the weekend and now has 13 for the season. Steffen scored twice against Campbellsport and now has 12 goals and 11 assists.

Whitnall track

The Falcons boys finished in the top two of five of six field events en route to a third-place effort at the Erickson/Richmond Invitational at Wauwatosa East on May 13.

Scott Erickson won twice, claiming the shot put with an effort of 53-1 and the discus with a 161-10.

Pablo Bras won the triple jump with a 42-5 1/2 , and taking seconds were Jake Streim in the long jump (19-9) and Joel Stave in the high jump (6-2).

On the track, Nikolai Miskov and Bob Grim finished first and second in the 100 dash in 11.33 and 11.47, respectively.

Whitnall also won the 400 and 800 relays and was second in the 1,600 relay.

For the girls, Rachel Stave helped the Falcons take third as well with a win in the triple jump at 35-2 and a runner-up effort in the 400 in 1:01.11.

Also victorious were Meredith Heller in the long jump (16-5 1/2 ) and the 800 and 3,200 relays, and Lauryn Jashinsky (300 hurdles; 50.29) and Lauren Zurowski (triple jump; 35-10) were second in their respective events.

A limited number of Falcons also participated at the West Allis Hale Invite on Friday. Jake Lehmann won the 800 (2:01.88) and was runner-up in the 400 (52.57).

Franklin tennis

In the final tuneup before the Southeast Conference Tournament and postseason, the Sabers earned a win in three tries at the competitive Manitowoc Tournament on Saturday.

In a 5-2 win against the host school in the tournament finale, the Sabers received three-set victories from the first doubles team of Brad Heale and CJ Malek and the second doubles team of Zach Bartels and Kyle Hoffmann, as well as straight-set wins from Mitch DeMario at third singles, Eric Christopherson at fourth singles and the third doubles team of Jake Ruetz and Patrick Donovan.

"Good way to end a challenging day," Franklin coach Gail Champion said. "This was a tough tournament with many high-quality teams. We hope it prepares us for the rest of our season."

Franklin lost to Marquette, 4-3, despite wins from Steve Petershack at fourth singles and a pair of doubles victories, and fell to Nicolet, 6-1.

Franklin also defeated Racine Horlick, 7-0, May 11, to finish the Southeast Conference dual season at 6-1.

Greendale tennis

The Panthers won their league crossover, 6-1, against Shorewood on May 13, to finish the regular season at 6-0 in Woodland Conference dual action.

Nick Kubczak's 6-3, 6-0 win over Marshall Mikaloczak highlighted Greendale's win over the Woodland Blue Division's best team.

Franklin softball

After getting blown out by SEC leader Kenosha Bradford on May 11, the Sabers bounced back with a pair of wins at the Waukesha West Invitational on Saturday.

Jayme Love had a big day at the plate in the victories, a 9-1 drubbing of Wisconsin Lutheran and a 7-2 win over the host school. Love, a junior infielder, went a combined 5-for-7 and drove in four runs against Wisconsin Lutheran.

Megan Newsom was 3-for-3 with two doubles at the plate and scattered six hits over seven innings to earn the pitching win against Waukesha West as Franklin improved to 10-7 overall.

Franklin did not commit an error over the weekend.

In a doubleheader against Bradford, Franklin lost, 8-0 and 17-4, to fall to 5-7 in the SEC as of Tuesday. The Sabers did not get a hit against Bradford ace Ali Brems in the first game and were outhit, 32-5, on the day.

Whitnall tennis

The Falcons won their third straight weekend invite by finishing first at the Oak Creek Quad on Saturday.

Singles players Andy Krawczyk, Andrew Dundas and Taylor Marino went undefeated on the day to claim first-place medals as the Falcons beat Muskego, Oak Creek and Waterford.

In addition, Whitnall earned a 4-3 win over New Berlin West in a Woodland Conference crossover match despite losing at first singles and doubles May 13. The victory gave the Falcons a final 5-4 conference mark.

Greendale softball

An eight-run first inning allowed the Panthers to cruise to a 17-2 home win over Wauwatosa West on May 10.

Greendale's Lauren Clasen homered, scored three times and drove in three to lead a 14-hit attack. But she was not alone. Alyssa Brunelli and Ellen Krueger each had a pair of hits and three RBIs and Jocelyn Bykowski was 3-for-3 with three runs.

Andrea Waldera allowed only three hits with five strikeouts over five innings to pick up the win

The Panthers (8-11 overall, 7-7 conference) managed only three hits and struck out 10 times against Tori Kilps in an 8-0 loss at New Berlin Eisenhower on Monday.

The Lions' Megan Duerlinger was 3-for-3 with a home run, triple and double and two RBIs against the Panthers, who also went 0-3 at the Southeast Showcase Tournament in Kenosha on Saturday.

Whitnall softball

The Falcons' offense struggled in a pair of losses last week.

Carolyn Dudek (double, RBI) and Allison Barnhart (two hits) combined for three of their team's four hits in a 10-3 home loss to South Milwaukee on May 10.

The Falcons also lost, 3-2, despite Dudek allowing only four hits at New Berlin West on Friday. This time, Whitnall's offense managed only two hits.

Greendale golf

Jordan Stachowski's 83 and Kyle Kubiak's 84 highlighted the Panthers' effort at their own 21-team Morningstar Invite where Greendale placed 12th Friday.

Whitnall golf

Michael Mathwick shot an 81 and Matt Ranta had an 88 as Whitnall tied Franklin for 13th at the Kaz Invitational at New Berlin Hills on Saturday.

At the 21-team Morningstar Invitational on Friday, Tyler Zientara's 85 led the Falcons, who placed 13th.

Oak Creek soccer

The Knights trailed 3-0 by halftime and never recovered in a 4-1, nonconference loss to Hamilton in Sussex on Friday.

Morgan Kokta scored in the 50th minute but that was as close as Oak Creek (6-8-2) would get to the Chargers, who got two goals from Kristen Anderson.

Franklin golf

Kevin Clark tied for medalist honors with a 40 as the Sabers concluded the Southeast Conference dual season with a 167-183 loss to Racine Horlick at Racine Country Club on May 10.

Clark also carded an 85 and Drew Rundell added an 86 as Franklin took 16th of 21 teams at the Morningstar Invitational on Friday, and Clark tied for 20th with a 79 while Franklin took 13th at The Kaz Invitational on Saturday.

Oak Creek golf

Tom Moranski's meet-best 39 helped the Knights to a season-low 169 and an 11-stroke victory over Racine Park at Ives Grove Golf Links on May 10.

On Friday, Matt Lesniewski and Mike Schlueter had matching 87 for the 17th-place Knights at the Morningstar Invitational.

Greendale track

Panther pole vaulter Tim Davis and the girls 400 relay were victorious at the Erickson/Richmond Invitational at Wauwatosa East on May 13.

Davis won his event with an effort of 13-0, and the relay won in 53.54.

Taking seconds for Greendale were Chelsey Heiden in the 3,200 (12:14.09), the boys 400 relay (46.29), Joel Sirus in the triple jump (39-7 ½), Jordan Dominiak in the shot put (46-10 ½) and Matt Pulizos in the discus (134-7 ½).

Franklin soccer

Caitlyn Bohn scored on Sam Devcich's assist in the Sabers' 1-0 win over Palmyra-Eagle during the Go Pink Invitational in Elkhorn on Saturday.

Franklin (2-9-2 overall, 0-4-1 conference) also lost, 3-2, to Lake Mills and, 1-0, to Elkhorn during the tournament and, 4-0, at home to Kenosha Bradford on Monday in a Southeast Conference match.
