Four area players named to NOW girls basketball team

March 30, 2010 | 0 comments

Oak Creek, Franklin and Greendale are all represented on the 2010 NOW All-Suburban Girls Basketball Team.

Knights senior guard Angela Rodriguez and junior forward Ashley Luke, Sabers junior guard/forward Taylor Atkinson and Panthers guard Mary Merg were among the 10 players selected to this year's team.

All four players were selected for the team for the first time.

The team was chosen by the NOW sports staff as well as the fans, for the first time ever, through online voting.

Stories on the area players are slated to appear online and in print April 8, along with profiles on the remainder of the team: Nicolet's Ashley Green, Muskego's Katie Ellerson and Alyssa Colla, New Berlin Eisenhower's Anna Hahn, Brookfield Central's Erin Lueder and Germantown's Eliza Wortman.

Green, a junior guard/forward for Nicolet, was selected as the NOW Player of the Year. Muskego's Brian Hirtz has been selected as the NOW Coach of the Year.

Atkinson tallied the most fan votes with 539, followed by Colla's 443. They were the only two players to register more than 250 votes.
