Kollauf will fill short term on Whitnall district panel

Nov. 13, 2012

Greenfield - Rick Kollauf, who served on the Whitnall School Board for 12 years before stepping down two years ago, will fill the vacancy created when Suzette Larson resigned.

Larson's term will expire in April. Kollauf said he probably won't seek election at that time.

"There are so many qualified people," he said Tuesday.

On Monday, the School Board interviewed Kollauf and three others interested in filling the vacancy. In the end, Kollauf receiving four of the six votes cast by the board.

Board member T.J. Anderson said he supported Kollauf because he could hit the ground running. There would be no learning curve, an important consideration since the appointee will only serve less than five months, he said.

Bernard Shaw said he cast his ballot for Kollauf because the other three applicants intend to run for the board in April.

"I don't think it's fair to pick one of the three," Shaw said. "It puts the other candidates at a disadvantage."

All have the skills to serve on the board, he said.

Shaw also noted the contributions Kollauf has already made to the board and his immediate readiness.

After his School Board service, Kollauf said he became more active with professional organizations to which he belongs - the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants. They have filled his desire to give back through civic service, he said. "It's important that we give back."

Kollauf said he came forward to serve out the rest of Larson's term simply because it would be most helpful to the board to have someone who would not have to be brought up to speed, considering the short time involved. He knows the board processes, having even served as its president.

Kollauf is a CPA, an attorney and an investment advisor with Vogel Consulting. He serves as a client service director and director of compliance for Vogel Consulting that includes tax consulting, compliance and accounting among its business, financial and investment services.
