May 25, 2010 | 0 comments

Events will be held in Oak Creek and Greendale to honor veterans this Memorial Day weekend.

Oak Creek

The annual event at Forest Hill Memorial Park, 3301 E. Forest Hill Ave., begins at 9 a.m. Monday with an in-cemetery parade to the new Veterans Garden of Honor section.

A flag-raising, the singing of the National Anthem and the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance will start the ceremony, which includes speakers Joe Maniscalco, commander of VFW Post No. 8482; Jim Oswald, commander of American Legion Post No. 434; state Sen. Jeff Plale; state Rep. Mark Honadel; and Mayor Dick Bolender.

A memorial wreath will be placed for all veterans and a roll call will honor veterans laid to rest at Forest Hill Memorial Park during the past year.

The Honor Guard will salute the departed veterans and taps will be played. Afterward, attendees are invited to American Legion Post No. 434, 9327 S. Shepard Ave., for hot dogs, ice cream and soda.

For information, call (414) 762-4446.

Greendale

American Legion Post No. 416 will hold Memorial Day events May 31.

A parade will be held at 9 a.m. in downtown Greendale, followed by a patriotic program at the high school at 9:30 a.m.

A pancake and waffle breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Legion post, 6351 W. Grange Ave.
