In favor of challenger and fresh ideas on council

March 19, 2010 | 0 comments

Public Forum:

I am supporting Greg Kowalski, who is running for 1st District alderman in Franklin, because I believe he is the better candidate.

Greg is running against a 10-year incumbent who seems to have run out of fresh ideas. But the incumbent did have an idea that would have cost Franklin property taxpayers - installing extra bells and whistles along 76th Street, which as you probably know Milwaukee County has offered to widen at county expense.

The incumbent acccuses Kowalski of being young and having no plans for the city. Yes, Kowalski is young but he certainly has ideas that will help move the city forward.

I attend almost every council meeting and know what is going on within the council. I believe Kowalski, when elected, will be a settling influence on the council and not an alderman who is constantly looking for an argument.

As one prime example: I happen to know that Kowalski is in favor of installing some kind of bad weather system/tornado warning system as protection for Franklin residents. After listening to the argument March 16 among the current council members, I'm not sure the incumbent is in favor of installing any kind of bad weather system. What he seemed bent on talking about is spending the small amount it will take to install the warning system. To me, this is not intelligent thinking because one of the things the council is there for is to protect all the residents.

Yes, Kowalski is young, but don't let anyone accuse him of having no ideas. I believe the city will be better off with some new blood on the council; someone who is young enough and intelligent enough to think on his feet. I urge you to vote for Kowalski on April 6.
