Franklin to accept bids for new water, sewer facility

Aug. 19, 2014

Franklin — The City of Franklin will begin accepting bids for a new water and sewer facility after the Common Council unanimously approved to move forward with the project on August 19.

The existing Water and Wastewater Operations facility, located at 5550 W. Airways Avenue, was built in 1985.

Since then, the facility has grown in staff and equipment and the operation currently uses nearby property for storage space.

The city is now considering a design that would expand the facility's existing 2,800 square foot building to one about six times larger — 13,600 square feet.

The design calls for offices, employee work stations, a conference room, a break room, locker rooms for men and women, vehicle storage and parking areas for employees and visitors.

The total cost estimate for the project is $3 million. Half of the expense is to be paid through the sewer department; the other half to be paid by water utility resources.

A bid opening for the project is scheduled for September 23.
