Field of four set for Franklin school race
Incumbent pulls in the most votes in Tuesday primary
Franklin - One incumbent will advance in the April 3 Franklin Public School Board election while another will not.
With six candidates vying for two three-year seats, four will advance to the spring general election. Member Janet Evans was the top vote-getter in Tuesday's six-way primary race. Voter turnout was 11 percent.
Unofficial results are:
Janet Evans (inc.) 882
Don Petre 724
Aimee Schlueter 688
John Paul Thompson 459
David A. Works 409
Judith Bialk 320
It was the first time in more than 20 years that the school district needed a primary, with interest in running heightened by the district's need for a future facilities plan and a state budget that has forced administrators to rethink how resources are allocated.
Evans attributed her showing Tuesday to her conservative values and ability to consider the interests of all community members, those with and without children in public schools.
"I think the citizens clearly wants a board member who's willing to weigh the interests of the whole community," she said.
"I ask a lot of questions and I expect answers," she added. "I think the public respects a representative who's going to tell it like it is. That's what I do."
Election results remain unofficial until they are certified by the board of canvassers.

I am now asking all those who are on the School Board, in the Administration, and teachers who are Socialists to please resign. Let the true Americans take these positions. Americans who want Liberty, the Constitution, personal responsibility, and a good academic education for our children. I ask these true Americans to please step up and take these positions. Our country, our local communities, and the whole world have had enough of the progressive socialists who are taking our freedom away. We Tea Party, Patriots, whatever you want to call us, have had enough and we are now going to take our local communities back.
Some have said, “people won’t move into Franklin if we don’t have new facilities”. I say good, we have enough residents in Franklin right now. We don’t need new facilities, we need a good academic education for our children so Franklin kids are the smartest in the state! And we need the teachers who can produce this. We value these teachers more than anyone can say. We need teachers to build on each student’s individual talents and creativity and encourage it to the fullest. Prepare them to be wrong, and to not be frightened to be wrong. To know right from wrong, and an exploration of the arts and sciences and an understanding of the foundational tenets of our Judeo-Christian heritage, and what has made America great.
I applaud Janet Evans for her courage. I know she won’t let us down. Now she needs fellow School Board Members to join her so we have the best district in the state.

With the amount we pay in taxes we should already be able to build/renovate the facilities. However, that's not the case. I would hope cutting spending would be a choice as well. If not I would be willing to pay more in taxes IF that translates into our kids getting a better education and having a better high school experience. Wouldn't that be investing in our kids?
Curious on what you think bmaersch. Not attacking in any way just generally curious.

1) There is absolutely no proof that better school buildings or renovated facility's translate into our kids getting a better education.
2) I have lived in this town for 23 years, have one daughter that has graduated FHS (with high honors) and gone on to be on the UWW business schools Deans List. In addition, I have a son in FHS with great grades also. So I ask you, do the facilities make the top students or the teachers?
3) We all like NEW, I do, I am sure you do.... but ... If you are expecting everyone else in that lives in the Franklin School District, no matter what their financial situation, must dig deeper into their pocketbooks to achieve those NEW facility's just so your and my kids can have a "Better High School Experience" is awfully selfish. Remember that 75% of the tax paying residents do not have children going to Franklin Schools. Many are senior citizens who can barely make ends meet. Others have lost their jobs or have taken pay cuts to keep them.
4) I have already paid once for our schools to be upgraded. I would rather see the money go into KEEPING educational programs and not new facilities.

What's surprising, too, is the fact that this goes against the thinking of one of the Left’s heroes; prominent Socialist and American journalist Walter Lippmann, who said: “When everyone thinks the same, nobody is thinking.”

As a parent, I want my kids to have a great education and facilities. I don’t mind shelling out more money if it is truly needed, but don’t take advantage of me. I don’t want a school board that blindly gives the teacher’s union everything they request, no questions asked. Janet asks the right questions; she’s looking out for me as both a parent and a taxpayer.
Like Janet, Aimee Schlueter has stated she’s an advocate for the taxpayer, “I am also here as a taxpayer and citizen. Taxpayers need a representative that has their best interests at heart while still providing exceptional educational opportunities for the children.”
Don’t vote for Petre! He is a WEAC union leader and activist. He has a Recall Walker sign in his front yard, which tells me that he and I don’t see eye-to-eye.
Please, please vote for JANET EVANS and AIMEE SCHLUETER!

A fancy facade or creative glass works is not going to help educate the kids. The amount learning going on in Franklin is no worse than Greendale, Greenfield, or that beautiful facility in Brookfield. Anyone who bases their assumption of education value by the exterior appearance, is one shallow individual who does not understand return on investment or simple economics for a community.
Feel good academics has given us a generation of kids who cannot do simple math in their heads and they cannot even give change at McDonald's without help from the computer. We need feel good facilities to boot.
I'd rather see existing facilities updated as long as they are structurally sound and can continue grow as technologies advance. That was whole point with 50 and 100 facility design years ago. There are several facilities in the downtown Milwaukee that used to be warehouses and foundries which are now high priced condos. That is the sort of thinking we need in our school board members.
In the April election, I'm voting for the candidates who are fiscally responsible and not the ones who are talking about needing massive improvements or brand new facilities.
