Local pages included among NOW paper awards
NOW Newspapers took home 20 awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association last week, including a first-place award for overall page design for the Oak Creek-Franklin-Greendale-Hales Corners NOW.
All three issues that judges liked were designed by Dan Polley, a page designer, copy editor, social media producer and web producer for the eight NOW newspapers.
They were published on Jan. 27, April 14 and Aug. 4, 2011.
Greendale schools hold Empty Bowls fundraiser
Greendale - The Greendale School District's 11th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser will be held at from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 17 in the multipurpose room of Greenfield High School, 6801 Southway.
For a $10 donation, guests will enjoy homemade soup and fresh bread served in a handmade ceramic bowl, which may be taken home as a reminder of hunger in the community. Proceeds of the event will benefit the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee.
Students in art, business, digital productions, family and consumer education, information technology, orchestra, special education and social studies throughout Greendale schools have been using skills they've learned in the classroom to lead and carry out every aspect of this service-learning project aimed at fighting hunger. They've raised more than $85,000 in the past 10 years to feed the hungry during this event.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and are available at the Greendale High School office. For more information or for a ticket order form, visit http://bit.ly/empty-bowls-2012.
For the dinner-and-a-show deal, present an Empty Bowls ticket stub to receive $1 off the ticket price to the March 17 performance of the GHS spring musical, "Beauty and the Beast."
The Greendale Empty Bowls project is funded by a grant through the Education Foundation of Greendale Inc.
