Emily M. Gussenhoven and Lt. Christopher D. Roettgen, both of Annapolis, Md., are planning a July 3, 2010, wedding at Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Parents of the engaged couple are C. Jo Gussenhoven of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and David and Barbara (nee Geoghan) Roettgen of Franklin.

The bride-to-be, who is a graduate of Lake City High School in Coeur d'Alene, earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., her master's degree in inorganic chemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle, and her doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of California in Davis, Calif. She is an adjunct assistant professor in the chemistry department at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.

The future groom, who is a graduate of Franklin High School, earned his bachelor's degree in physics from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, and his master's degree in applied physics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in Baltimore, Md. He also completed submarine officer basic course in Groton, Conn., the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, S.C., and the Naval Nuclear Power Training Prototype Unit in Ballston Spa, N.Y. He is a submarine officer in the United States Navy currently stationed at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis as an instructor in the physics department.

The couple became engaged at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Baltimore on Aug. 19, 2009.
