Aug. 26, 2009 | 0 comments

Margaret Evenson of Franklin died July 27, 2009.

Margaret and Allen were married in 1937 in their hometown of Monroe. In 1948, they moved to their present 80-acre farm in Franklin.

She was proud of her Irish Catholic heritage, and she was the cook for the priests of Sacred Hearts Parish in Franklin. She referred to the priests as her boys.

She was proud to have named Franklin's Legend Park, later named as Lions Legend Park. Then-Mayor John Hyde in the early 1970s congratulated her at the Fourth of July ceremony. In later years she rode in the Fourth of July parade with her son, Alderman Peter Evenson

She will always be remembered for her extraordinary commitment to her family.

She is survived by her children, Kay, Allie (Esther), Joanne, Peter and Jennie (Albert) Stich; grandchildren, Tony Booth, Jolie and Jimmy Keys; Austin and Evan Stich; niece, Carol Gehrke-Kowalewski; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; and son, Tony.

A Mass of Christian Burial and Memorial Mass were held at St. Martin of Tours on July 30.

The family thanks all those who attended the memorial Mass and lunch in celebration of Margaret's life. The family specially thanks Lloyd and Agnes Salentine for being a true and loyal friend to mother.
