Daniel J. Mattson died July 25, 2009, at age 25, from complications from a childhood medical condition.

He would have been 26 on Aug. 5. He was a 2002 Greendale High School graduate and a 2007 University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate. He was a member of the Greendale cross country, basketball and track teams, and a member of the 2002 National Honor Society. His love of meteorology led him to a Bachelor of Science degree in geography and climatology in 2007.

After graduation, he stayed in Madison and started a career with Copps Food Center. He was an avid sports fan, "Once a Badger Always a Badger." He would talk for hours about the Brewers, Badgers, Packers and any other sports event on the globe. He loved pizza.

He is survived by his mother, Jean (David Miller) Mattson of Greendale; father, John (Jule) Lacey of Wauwatosa; sisters and brother, Tess, Mary and Joey Lacey; grandmothers, Betty J. Lacey of Waupaca and Ann (Damon) Shingleton of Citrus Springs, Fla.; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Mattson and Raymond Lacey, Mary Jane and John (Jule) Rozwadowski, William and Rosemary Jean (David) Miller.

Memorials are suggested to Epilepsy Foundation of SE Wisconsin c/o Max A. Sass Funeral Home, 4747 S. 60th St., Greenfield, WI 53220.

The family thanks his co-workers and managers at Copps for helping him get started in the working world, and all of the individuals at Froedtert Hospital Emergency for their extraordinary care.

Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
