Jennifer is a one in a million stay-at-home mom. (More like one OF a million stay at home moms!) She graduated from a liberal arts college but there is nothing liberal OR artsy about her. She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. Follow her blog of all things miscellaneous including but not limited to cooking and baking, entertaining and party planning, being a mommy, and homekeeping.
In case you’re wondering where I’ve been the last few days, I can tell you with all certainty I didn’t jet off to this place. No, it’s just been a busier-than-normal week. You see, earlier this year, I said that I’m proud to be considered Plus-Sized. That hasn’t changed. Now, if the Flat Tummy Fairy decided to wave her wand over my midsection, I wouldn’t complain. But I’m never going to have perfect abs and I’ve made my peace with that.
There are lots of methods and theories out there about potty training your kids. Some use sticker charts (never enough of an incentive for Kyla) and some use a small food reward like M&M’s (didn’t want to deal with that.) For training boys there’s the famous “Aim Game” with floating Cheerios in the toilet bowl. As with most things I feel the best approach is whatever works for your family. The goal is the same no matter what: you want to rid yourself of disposables ASAP and help your child become more independent. It is, indeed, a happy day when that is accomplished.
When we found out Baby was going to make three, there was never a question what the nursery theme would be. Since we weren’t finding out the gender via ultrasound, it had to be neutral. It also had to be Disney. Mickey and Minnie to be exact. I always said that our baby was going to be born with two sets of ears; one set would be round and black, perched right on top of baby’s head. I wasn’t far off. Kyla (thanks to Mommy & Daddy, mostly) has loved The Mouse since Day One. I have many photos of her snuggling with her huge stuffed Mickey & Minnie friends and she recognized those famous ears at a very young age.
Supper Clubs, in their original form, are before my time. I might be OK with that, except that I’m firmly convinced I was born in the wrong decade and belong more in Laura Petrie-style capris or cocktail dresses than I do in jeans or anything from
I’ll be weepy all day today. Usually not one to turn on T.V. for myself I’ll check periodically to see what the news stations are doing to commemorate 9/11. I guess I’m fortunate that the tragedy eleven years ago is the only horrific historical moment that I truly remember “where I was when I found out.” There are postings all over Facebook with memories of what people were doing when they first heard or saw the news. I’m no different; I can relate exactly what was going on for me that morning.
When Kevin & I went on our Babymoon to Walt Disney World, we couldn’t help but pick up a few things for Baby Fischer. Not knowing the gender was a slight problem; however we still managed to get some nice items. Among our “souven-ears” were a onsie & bib from Finding Nemo and Kevin was actually the one to spot them first. We can’t resist anything that has “Fish for Fischer.”
Doesn’t it crack you up when you read a “recipe” that requires nothing but common sense? Have you ever seen how-to’s for grilled cheese, BLT, and spaghetti & meatballs that use pre-made meatballs and jarred sauce? Boggles the mind, doesn’t it? I’m not knocking them because I’ve found some yummy things there, but Taste of Home has plenty of reader submissions that fall in that category. I’m sure that while I haven’t seen it personally, someone submitted a “favorite” for boxed cake mix, canned frosting, and sprinkles.
I call it a running joke. Kevin finds it considerably less funny…
I’m not a bigot, racist or hater. I AM conservative, traditional and old-fashioned. You’ll never see my car graced with a COEXIST bumper sticker. Sorry.
A little over a year ago, I contemplated starting my own blog on FranklinNOW. My hesitations: Would I have enough to write about? Would I have the time to write about it? Would anyone read it?
“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.”
My favorite part of Kevin’s Week Ends regular feature is the Heroes. There is nothing more heart-warming than reading about people who go above and beyond the call of duty to help others or people that overcome incredible odds and go on to inspire others.
For dolphins, that’s not unusual. Their gestation period is anywhere from 9 to 17 months depending on their species. Then similar to their human counterparts, moms will nurse their calves from 11 months to 2 years.
I admit it. My taste in music leans toward “fogey.” I couldn’t name one Top 40 group from this year or the last ten for that matter. Nothing from current bands appeals to me. I like the classics from decades ago: Sinatra, Bennett and Dean Martin as well as contemporary versions of their genre: Diana Krall, Michael Buble, etc. I love Smooth Jazz; while purists might argue it’s not anything close to Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong I’ll take Dave Koz and Boney
