QUOTES OF THE WEEK

"By every objective measure from jobs and economic growth to the rising price tag the stimulus has failed."
WI Congressman Paul Ryan

"(African-Americans) are sort of a mongrel people. I mean we're all kinds of mixed up. That's actually true of white people as well, but we just know more about it."
President Obama

"
We're fast approaching the two week anniversary of the Shirley Sherrod affair, and I have yet to hear anyone honestly answer the following question concerning the controversy: How would the media have handled this matter if it happened when George W. Bush was President?"
Noel Sheppard on Newsbusters

"Married women, 70% of unmarried women, voted for Obama, and this is because when you kick your husband out, you've got to have big brother government to be your provider."
Phyllis Schlafly

"Opposition to affirmative action is racist. Supporting the tea party gives aid and comfort to racists. Opposing health care puts you in league with folks who used racial slurs on Rep. John Lewis. To raise the issue of the New Black Panther Party is to play the race card. One understands the bitterness of tea-party folks who carry signs that read: "What difference does it make what this placard says? You'll call it racist anyway."
Pat Buchanan

"Milwaukee County is suffering $20 million in damages and this guy goes off to promote his own campaign. He hopped on his campaign caravan and skipped town for the entire weekend."
State Dem Chair Mike Tate ripping Milwaukee Co. Exec. Scott Walker for campaigning around the state the weekend after flooding rocked the Milwaukee area late last week. The party now is airing a TV ad in the outstate markets where Walker was campaigning.

"Tate & state Dems r more interested in throwing mud than cleaning up mud in people's basements."
Walker tweeting Thursday night from the Fox Valley, where he was campaigning.

"You can win this argument. You just can’t be afraid. You’ve just got to stand up and be proud of the fact that Barack Obama had the guts to be the first president in 70 years to get the job done. It’s something to be proud of!"
U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Middleton), defending his votes on federal stimulus and health care reform legislation during a stop at his campaign office in Hudson.

"If Feingold really was representing his constituents, he would be working to repeal the health care bill and use the unspent stimulus dollars to help plug the $13 trillion federal deficit."
State GOP Chairman Reince Priebus.

"We know elections will take place and we know that some people will get elected and others won't, but this is a national program. We are committed to it and high-speed intercity rail is coming to America. High-speed rail is coming to Wisconsin."
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood declaring the high-speed rail line between Madison and Milwaukee is a done deal. LaHood and Governor Jim Doyle signed an agreement Thursday in Watertown for $46.5 million in engineering and design work on the project.

"Oil is worse than carp."
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley blasting Michigan over an oil spill in the Kalamazoo River, which feeds into Lake Michigan.
