THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY: Sunny and windy. high of 69  "A"

SUNDAY:  Morning showers, High of 64.  "B"

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

Ever since I was a young dog owner, I liked to imagine what was going on inside our pet’s minds.  Did they think the room was too hot like we did?  Did they want a belly rub or an ear scratch?  Did they want a drink of water or a treat?  Did they think my outfit looked OK?  Did they wish I’d just leave them alone to have a nice puppy dream?

Most of the time I’d make up my own answers based on their personality, behavior, and past experiences with them.  I think every pet owner feels that they can read their dog’s (or cat’s) mind or at least that they know them well enough to figure out just what they want and need.

Now, investigative science is catching up with the “regular world” and discovering that, indeed, a lot goes on inside a doggy mind.  Through diligent research and observation, they have gathered information about how dogs see, their sense of smell, and how they interact with humans.

I think that dog lovers will find the results fascinating, sociologists will be intrigued, and dog OWNERS might finally have that “ah ha” moment.  Actually, I think dog owners will read this fabulous article  and say to themselves, “I knew it all along.  I knew that was what Max thought.”

Thank you, Alexandra Horowitz, for an incredible journey into our four-legged friends’ minds.
