Yes, by all means, boycott Arizona

T
ake a look.

A sign in protest of immigration bill SB1070 is displayed on the Wesley Boylan Plaza Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Capitol in Phoenix a day after Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the bill into law. The sweeping measure would make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally, and would require local law enforcement to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are in the country illegally. It’s about time wimpy America gets tough on illegal immigration and Arizona is leading the way. The state’s controversial new law, SB 1070 “requires officials and agencies of the state and political subdivisions to fully comply with and assist in the enforcement of federal immigration laws and gives county attorneys subpoena power in certain investigations of employers,”  and “establishes crimes involving trespassing by illegal aliens, stopping to hire or soliciting work under specified circumstances, and transporting, harboring or concealing unlawful aliens, and their respective penalties.”

The painter of above sign, quite possibly an illegal immigrant, wants tourists to stay away.

So does Ricardo Pimentel....

He's the liberal editor running the liberal editorial pages at the liberal Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Here's Pimentel's Quick Hit from today's Crossroads section:

Scapegoating in Arizona

By Ricardo Pimentel of the Journal Sentinel

I came here from Arizona. Maybe if I were still there, I'd be among those whose "papers" are ominously demanded, as in WWII movies. Maybe not. My parents, Mexican immigrants, surely would be targeted. The Arizona governor on Friday signed the mean-spirited, anti-immigrant SB 1070. Here's a clue for Arizona. I like spring training and much more in Arizona. No more. I won't set foot there as long as this law exists. And that's my advice for others: Boycott.

Yes, yes!

I would love if illegal aliens would refuse to enter Arizona and the other 49 states as well. Now that would be an appropriate boycott. Ricardo Pimentel threatening to boycott Arizona? I'm sure tourism officials there are shaking in their turquoise jewelry.

J
ennifer's been bugging me for years to take her to Arizona. This might be the ideal time!
