Franklin, WI - With the April 6th local elections less than one month away, the Wisconsin GrandSons of  Liberty is holding a public debate with the candidates seeking the Alderman seats in Franklin's 1st, 2nd  and 5th Districts. This is the perfect event for Franklin's citizens to meet their candidates and future Alderman.

1st District:
Incumbent: Steve Olson
Challenger: Greg Kowalski

2nd District:
Incumbent: Tim Soloman (invited)
Challenger: unopposed

5th District:
Challenger: Brian Maersch

Challenger: Doug Schmidt

The debate is at the Root River Center, at 7220 W. Rawson Ave in Franklin on March 22, 2010.  The doors open at 6:00 pm.  The debates end at 8:00 pm with a short Meet and Greet period to immediately follow the debate. What burning issue do you have that you want to ask one of these candidates?  The debate moderators will accept questions from the audience to include in the panel of questions for the debate.  This is the public's opportunity to get a clear picture of the candidates stances regarding our local issues plus the state and national issues that will eventually affect us all.

Note the press release states:

“What burning issue do you have that you want to ask one of these candidates?  The debate moderators will accept questions from the audience to include in the panel of questions for the debate.

I have a few questions for Franklin’s most naïve blogger and citizen, 1st District Aldermanic candidate Greg Kowalski.

1) Why the sudden interest in Franklin’s sex offender ordinances, Greg? You never wrote about them or supported them in your previous years of blogging. You never wrote about Franklin’s community stance against sex offenders. In fact, you joined with a muckraking blogger from another suburb to trash Citizens for a Safe Wisconsin and their fundraiser to raise money to assist in the fight to protect our children. Why after years of silence about our constitutional ordinances have you politically and conveniently come out of the woodwork to talk about this issue?

2) How can we trust you to be a friend of the taxpayer when you have never met a big tax increase or spending proposal you haven’t liked?  You aggressively supported the school referenda questions a few years ago that failed 60-40.

3) How would you have voted on last year’s city budget that raised taxes?

4) How can we trust you to work in harmony with Mayor Taylor and other council members when you have persistently criticized the mayor and in one of your blogs actually wrote that City Hall had, and I quote, “destroyed Franklin?”

5) How much in property taxes did you personally pay last year? The year before? The year before that?

6) You claim publicly that you have worked in international sales. Could you clarify?

7) What is your current full time job and record of job experience?

8) Do you believe that an alderman’s voice and representation is more important than a citizens’ petition?

RE-ELECT FRANKLIN ALDERMAN STEVE OLSON!

  1. I did not attend the debate. My wife, baby and I wet out for Italian. Much more appetizing.

I know the players. I doubt seriously if any really tough questions would get their way through the moderators.

That's sad. The voters need to know what the candidates are all about, especially Kowalski who is 100% out of touch with not only his district, but the city of Franklin.

If Franklin voted 60-40 against the school referenda a few years back and Kowalski vigorously supported the referenda, it follows that Kowalski and his liberal ideology is dangerous for Franklin.

My goodness, the poor sap couldn't find anyone in all of Franklin to be his campaign treasurer, so he was forced to pick one of Wisconsin's most disliked bloggers.......IN ANOTHER SUBURB......to fill that role.

If you want higher taxes and more out of control spending, vote for Kowalski.

If you want common sesne and fiscal responsibility and institutional knowledge and valuable experience and a champion for our kids vs. evil sex predators, the vote is for STEVE OLSON.
  2. How likely do you think it is that these questions will be addressed?

You are a Franklin tax payer and everyone knows Greg feels that someone in office, running for office or working for anyone in office can never disagree with or in anyway challenge a constituent. If Greg follows the rules he has wanted imposed on others then I certainly think you are entitled to having these questions answered respectfully.

I wouldn't hold my breath though.
