"Legitimacy can’t be had through backroom bribery, arm twisting and procedural maneuvers that corrupt and make a mockery of the spirit that enervates the principles of procedure, rule and law. Nor can it be had through default – by being the only other choice on the ballot. Legitimacy must be won the old fashioned way: it must be earned by nurturing the trust of the people."

"So today’s defeat for free-market economics and Republican values is a huge win for the conservative entertainment industry. Their listeners and viewers will now be even more enraged, even more frustrated, even more disappointed in everybody except the RESPONSIBILITY-FREE talkers (and bloggers) on television and radio."

How appropriate was it that Pelosi walked to the vote with a giant gavel? I hope it’s a case of them losing by getting exactly what they wanted. Problem is everyone is stuck with what they wanted and they don’t even know what we are all getting. It then happens on a Sunday while the chosen one is alternately blackmailing Congressmen(D) and watching the NCAA. At least he has priorities.

When the Constitution gets trampled on by a group led by a woman who swore she'd "do anything" to get socialized medicine passed, including getting supposed pro-lifers to abandon their principles, the entire country loses.

It’s hard to exaggerate the magnitude of the disaster. Conservatives may cheer themselves that they’ll compensate for today’s expected vote with a big win in the November 2010 elections. But it’s a good bet that conservatives are over-optimistic about November – by then the economy will have improved and the immediate goodies in the healthcare bill will be reaching key voting blocs."
