Goodnight everyone, and have a weekend filled with companionship!

*GOODNIGHT WAS DELAYED TONIGHT BECAUSE OF THE LIVE BLOGGING ON FRANKLINNOW OF FRANKLIN'S EXCITING 27-26 WIN OVER LAKE GENEVA BADGER IN THE WIAA DIVISON 2 FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS*

It's Friday night. Time to unwind with our regular Friday night feature on This Just In.

The weekend has finally arrived.

The sun has set.

The evening sky has erupted.

Let's put controversy and provocative blogs aside for the rest of this work week and smooth our way into Saturday and Sunday.

Tonight, music on the blue side.

I don’t have the data to corroborate, but I’m pretty certain there are more songs written about love than any other subject matter. It stands to reason that also high on the list of fodder for songwriters is love lost, love lament, loneliness.

The torch song.

Brian Setzer is known for his rockabilly guitar and blaring, big orchestra that has covered everyone from Al Jolson to Elvis. Setzer’s brand new CD is unlike any project he has ever undertaken. The Wall Street Journal reports:

Brian Setzer's latest big-band adventure is dedicated to the shadowy ambience and threatening tone of film noir. A Stray Cat in an abandoned alley: The big-band swing man goes for dark and dangerous.”

Get ready for Brain Setzer that won’t part your hair in 10 different directions, or in my case, one.

From his brand new CD, “Songs from Lonely Avenue”…..

At this time of year, I think of Setzer and his heart-pounding Christmas music. His annual Christmas concert is a blast.

Christmas is gonna ROCK!

No visit to Milwaukee this year. The closest stops on the tour are November 21 in Waukegan, Illinois and November 23 in Wausau.

Read more about Setzer’s new recordings, all of which he wrote himself, in the Wall Street Journal.

Long before Brian Setzer, and long before our next performer was winning Oscars for his vocals on the theme songs for popular movies, Andy Williams pleaded, “Where’s this place called Lonely Street?” in the late 1950’s.

Williams is a national treasure, star of radio TV, recordings, and as of late, Branson. He’s been performing since the age of 8 in 1935.

Before Moon River, Hawaiian Wedding Song, Music to Watch Girls By, The Godfather, and Love Story, there was…..

In his 80's, and still hitting the high notes.

Love the way he holds out that last word:

“Where’s this place called Lonely Streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettt?”

If he really wanted the answer, all he had to do was pick up the phone and call Elvis.

Elvis knew.

Well, since my baby left me,

I found a new place to dwell.

It's down at the end of
Lonely Street

at Heartbreak Hotel.”

In addition to his rockers, country and gospel, Elvis had his share of sad, lonely songs, especially after his divorce from Priscilla. He had a way, a style of making sad lyrics sound beautiful.

Here’s one of his more obscure tracks, recorded in March of 1961,  “There’s Always Me.

That’s it for this evening.

Good night.

Sleep well.

Have a weekend that’s free of loneliness.

Now I know what you’re thinking.

Kev.

You’re going to end like that?

On a less than cheery note?

Don’t do it.

But you see, there’s a theme I try to stick to every week. I was preparing to hit you with "Stormy Weather."

Don’t do it, Kev!

"Stormey Weather" would be the ideal ending. A theme, ladies and gentlemen, a theme with a lot of thought that goes…..

No, Kevin, no!

Wellllllll…..

I think we can arrange something.

For two dear friends of mine who celebrated their wedding anniversary on Wednesday.

This is for them, a famous, classic love song that was played at their wedding reception, performed here by a living legend.
