This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely baby daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

"Good morning, this is the Franklin police"

No one likes to hear that call, especially at 1:40 a.m.

But Jennifer and I got it the other night, or should I say, morning.

Normally a ringing telephone of that nature isn’t good. But this wake-up call was welcomed at the Fischer household.

Seems hubby thought the wife had closed the garage door and vice versa. When a squad car drove by early the next morning, it reported the wide open door and an officer then called our house.

Since I couldn’t quite get to the phone in time to pick up, I relayed a thank you the next day. I fully understand the message an open garage door sends to criminals: come right on in. Yet I’m amazed at the many open garage doors in Franklin I see, both day and night.

We were lucky. Nothing was stolen. No one broke in because of our big mistake.

When I called to offer my thanks, the Franklin police officer said what I thought she would: “No problem. That’s what we do.”
