As a public service to Franklin citizens who read my blog and pay exorbitant taxes, let’s check out what our elected school board members in Franklin are saying publicly about what every taxpayer deserves to know: information pertinent to next year’s school budget.

I have not one, but two blogs. On my FranklinNOW blog, I won't say BOO now that I'm elected.
On the Franklin School District website, I said, "In order for success to be realized, open communication between citizens, the Board, and the administration is essential."
Hey, that's wonderful, isn't it.
What does Janet Evans, the former never-shy, now turned Barney have to say about the budget?
Do you hear crickets?
But you can always talk with her eminence 20 minutes before any meeting.

She may not say a word until 2012.

Nothing so far.
Oh. They'll talk for sure, right around October when they vote to jack up your school taxes. Between now and then, I'll bet they avoid any such discussion.
If I'm so wrong (and so terrible) prove me wrong and say something, anything. Don't do it for me. Do it for the taxpayers.

Wow....you want to be like New Berlin ? This is a school district that cuts money from the classroom so it can fix up buildings. This is a district that has principals doubling as athletic directors and many others doubling as other things they are not. This is turning into a hodge podge district with big dreams and no money for it. This is a district that's constantly putting out one fire after another because they saved money in the past by letting things run down. You really want to be like New Berlin ? You should think again. New Berlin puts on a nice facade but underneath it all it's been on a steady decline.

Effectiveness means, among other things, communications. Why is this board so silient when others are actively open and discussing the school tax issue so far in advance?

The point of my blog is that I wish that Franklin school board members would be as open as New Berlin school board members have been about discussing THE BUDGET. It's the most important issue they will ever tackle.
The Franklin bunch doesn't say anything. Yet one board member in particular is constantly blowing her horn about the importance of communications. Eventually, she'll have to take a position and actually vote. My God, I hope she doesn't go into cardiac arrest.
If other districts like New Berlin already have a handle on what their budgets will look like, even without a state budget in place, why can't Franklin?
It also appears New Berlin is taking action to cut costs. That would be too much to ask of the Franklin board. If they won't SAY anything at this point, I doubt they'll DO anything.

I'll tell you. Because the Franklin board has gotten away with pulling the rug out at the last minute for years and years and years.
Janet Evans, to some degree, was a watchdog in the past. Now she's on the other side of the fence. Her election victory, in essence, helped the do-nothing, anti-taxpayer status quo as she has obviously decided to take on the role of Suzy Cream Cheese and not ruffle any feathers by saying nothing.
Tell me how the citizenry gained by her victory? How does the taxpaying public benefit by another neutered member on the board? And that includes Bialk as well.
Can anyone tell me how Evans and Bialk, the newest members on the board, will vote on the issues that matter the most?
Can you?
I sure can't because I'm not sure they even know.
Could they be waiting for specific marching orders?
Combine them with the remainder of the gang and you have a totally ineffective bunch that will only sing out of the same hymnal:
State of Wisconsin: BAD!
We no get enough money from state: BAD!
We hate to do so (Dr. Patz and Jim Milzer, here are your big, fat raises) but we must increase school taxes AGAIN!

This blog entry is really about the effectiveness of the Franklin School Board.
