The Socialists are going after food next

Legislation approved by Congress and  gleefully signed into law by President Obama gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority over tobacco products for the first time……ever.

Tobacco is a legal product.

Doesn’t matter.

In this tsunami of unprecedented government takeover of American industries, it’s no surprise that the socialist who now run everything in our country would set their sights on the most evil commodity on the planet.

What does it mean?

The FDA can now set far-reaching limits on tobacco advertising.

There will be enhanced and larger warnings on tobacco products because as we all recognize, nobody, I mean nobody knows that smoking is dangerous, so the more “education” the better.

Please. Everyone on the planet knows smoking is bad for you.

How much more does more education mean? Warnings will cover at least half of tobacco packages. Ads could only be in black and white. The First Amendment? What the hell is that?

Candy-like tobacco lozenges and sweet-flavored products will no longer be sold.

Please. Is there anyone on the planet who doesn't know smoking is bad for you?

Uncle Sam can also restrict the levels of nicotine and other ingredients in tobacco products.

On the surface, oh my goodness, that sounds so, so, so, wonderful!!! The Obamessiah, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank et al will able to essentially control Big Tobacco.

Sorry, but this news doesn’t thrill or excite. In fact, it scares me. Why? Because I am a pool player. I don’t look at the ball I’m shooting at right now. I plan my next shots, two, three, four balls down the table.

I worry about the next ball in the sights of our fast-growing socialist government and I see food. Food that’s considered bad for me.

Don’t laugh. I see one national columnist brought up an example of a food item I enjoyed just this past week: a Big Mac. I don’t fancy
Two All-Beef Patties Special Sauce Lettuce Cheese Pickles Onion on a Sesame Seed all that often, but when I do, I gotta admit that baby goes down real nice. Oh, yum!

I’ve also read the news (actually it’s no longer news, it’s pretty old stuff) about how God-awful the Big Mac is because it has all that sodium.

Does Big Brother intend to regulate nasty foods just like they intend to control nasty tobacco? You betcha!

Lots of non-smokers are deliriously happy about the trampling of rights brought on by heavy-handed smoking regulations. Why? Simple. Because they don’t smoke! What happens when those non-smokers who eat and drink like crap are the next targets?

I love this. Even those who have been pushing for more government interference when it comes to tobacco aren’t happy. Researcher and anti-tobacco activist Stanton Glantz at U.C. San Francisco Stanton Glantz says about the new law signed by President Obama, “It's kind of like trying to push a balloon into a box that isn't quite big enough.”

The crowd that wants government to step in and control everything (generally liberals) is NEVER satisfied. That’s why they refuse to back down and just go after something else.
