QUOTES OF THE WEEK

"Them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office. ...They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ... I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do."
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright in an exclusive interview at the 95th annual Hampton University Ministers' Conference. Wright told the Daily Press that he has not spoken to his former church member since Obama became president, and he implied that the White House won't allow Obama to talk to him.

"I hope Americans watching this story unfold, take away the most important lesson I have learned through all of this: nothing is more important than standing up for what you believe in, no matter what the cost may be. I've done my best under the difficult circumstances to handle the vicious attacks with integrity and show respect to others, even those who don't agree with me.

"I worked in good faith to meet my responsibilities as Miss California USA. I have met every scheduled appearance, and responsibility, as recently as May 31st. I have followed the proper protocol requested of me and haven't made any appearances or speaking engagements without the consent or approval from the Miss California USA or Miss Universe Organizations. I have not signed with any book publisher or taken on any business proposals. As of today, June 11, 2009, I have done everything possible to honor my contract.

"I am proud to be an American, and blessed to have had the opportunity to exercise my freedom of speech. I am excited and looking forward to where God leads me in the future. I know He has big plans for me. I am proud to be the strong woman God has molded me to be. I will always stand for the truth, respectfully, and never back down.

Thank you and God Bless."
Carrie Prejean after she was stripped of her title as Miss California.

“One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.”
David Letterman on his late night TV show, noting that Sarah Palin while in New York took her daughter to a Yankee game.

"To attack a 14 year old, underage daughter of an upstanding American family, is to attack the safety of every 14 year old girl. Especially from a viagra'd-up 62 year old who few would be willing to leave their 14 year old alone with on a television stage, much less a private conversation with."
Conservative columnist Kevin McCullough, ripping Letterman.

"We have successful schools in the choice program where kids are learning, kids are succeeding and achieving their dreams and we're going to kill it.”
State Representative Leah Vukmuir (R-Wauwatosa), blasting Assembly Democrat amendments to kill school choice.

“This is a case where a proposed ordinance's reach exceeds its grasp.”
Circuit Court Judge Thomas Cooper, striking down the city of Milwaukee’s sick leave ordinance.  In his ruling, Cooper noted that the ballot question that led to voter approval of the ordinance never mentioned provisions that allow victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking to use sick time for legal action or relocation.

“We think it's a big victory for the city of Milwaukee and its economic competitiveness and a big victory for all the workers who rely on a competitive economy here in Milwaukee for their job."
Steve Baas of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce that challenged the ordinance.

“Earlier today, President Obama spoke at a town hall meeting in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Half of the Wisconsin crowd had never seen an African-American and the other half had never seen a skinny person.”
Late Night talk show host Conan O’Brien.

“I know he’s trying to be funny, but really, in his heart he needs to know what a great community this is. We’re going to invite him here for one of our great summer events or for a Packers game, at his expense. I think we owe it to him to educate him.”
Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt reacting to O’Brien.

“Conan could probably use a good tailgate party in Green Bay. We’re probably heavy by his standards and he’s too thin by our standards.”
Paul Jadin, president of the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce.
