He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely baby daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Oskee huh???????

I’m thinking about Franklin’s Shari Hanneman this week. She made some news on the Franklin blogs for her understandable decision to step away from the Franklin Plan Commission. But that’s old news and it’s not why I write about her this time.

Shari Hanneman’s a good friend, except on certain days of the year. This happens to be one of them. Illinois plays Wisconsin at Camp Randall today. Shari went to Illinois. That’s not all. Shari played in the Fightin’ Illini marching band.

I’ll admit. I’m a bit intrigued by that Illinois fight song. It's got some beat, some style. I hear it’s the 163rd best college fight song in America.

Let’s be honest. As I mentioned, I like Shari. But I have trouble envisioning this bright, articulate, charming, wholesome, dedicated suburban mom standing in the middle of her living room shouting, “OSKEE WOW WOW!”

To be blunt, I wanted to know what the hell OSKEE WOW WOW meant. So I asked my friend, Shari. I said, “Shari, what the hell does OSKEE WOW WOW mean?” She responded by referring me to this website that has, as Ed McMahon might have said to Johnny Carson, “Everything you ever wanted to know about OSKEE WOW WOW is right there!” The UI band playing the fight song is there, too.

I’m still not sure I quite understand. All I know is Shari along with her young impressionable children will be singing OSKEE WOW WOW, ILLINOIS in the Hanneman household today. I find it interesting that the Illinois fight song mentions Wisconsin.

Shari
, I fear, will have the last laugh and OSKEE WOW WOW today. Illinois is favored by three points but this has all the makings of a much bigger win for the Illini. I can’t see the Badgers stopping them, especially their talented QB Juice Williams.

One final quick story. I took my mother years ago to Ireland. She’s always wanted to go there. On St. Patrick’s Day, we were in Dublin for the big parade. Every Irish parent was there, each with their 10 kids in tow. It’s a national holiday, so schools are closed along with businesses until after the parade when all the pubs open.

During the parade, some youngsters with great anticipation got very excited when a certain unit was approaching. I recall one child exclaiming, “Here come the Americans!”  It was the Illinois marching band.

The parade stalled at that point with band members right in front of us, so I struck up a conversation with them, saying we were neighbors and all. The band members raised every cent to make the trip, and for Illinois kids, they were awfully nice (Please, no nasty e-mails. That was a feeble attempt at humor). Who knows? Maybe my Franklin friend was in that group.

OSKEE WOW WOW, Shari. Just go easy on us today, OK?
