This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely baby daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Now that's real astute political commentary

The big story in Franklin this week is, of course, the four election charges filed against Franklin Mayor Tom Taylor by Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf.

I’ve written one, just one blog on the subject, and yet my name or references to me and my opinions (with jabs tossed in) have been mentioned on at least eight other blogs (and there probably will be eight more). The beauty of the blogs is that there will be disagreement from time to time. And that's fine. But if people are going to take shots at me, there just might be rebuttals. I feel that it’s only fair that I respond to some of what’s out there, because it borders on the absurd.

First off, some bloggers have apparently forgotten that you’re innocent until proven guilty. They have already tried and convicted the mayor. Those bloggers would be Janet Evans and Greg Kowalski, Franklin’s newest dynamic duo. Boy, didja ever think those two would be in cahoots?

If Greg, the President of the "I Hate Mayor Taylor Club” had his way, Taylor would be sitting in Waupun.

Greg asks on one of his blogs, “Where’s the criminal charges?”  Once again, his English teacher at Franklin High School just aged another year. I guess it never occurred to our resident whippersnapper that a prosecutor, as part of his decision-making process, usually only considers charges he believes can stick and that he has a case for.

By the way, Greg is all in a tizzy because I spoke with the Assistant DA on this matter a few weeks before charges were issued. It’s a good thing my car wasn’t parked at the Courthouse that day.

This might be shocking to Greg but I talk to a lot of important people........ all the time!

It turns out that prior to talking to Landgraf, I received a tip from a very close associate of Basil Ryan’s that charges were about to come down against Taylor. Obviously, the former mayoral candidate wanted me to have this information. So, on my own personal time, I contacted Landgraf who confirmed he was reviewing the matter, asked that I not blog about it and check back later. Then the story broke.

So much for Greg’s typical wild speculation. He does tend to shoot his mouth off without supportive evidence.

My first blog on this matter attempted to put the issue in perspective. Franklin blogger John Michlig did a good job of that in his piece earlier this week when he wrote, “On the scandal meter, I'd put this pretty low. Sounds like a misappropriation of already-scarce city resources at best - - and certainly worth public note and rebuke if true - - but nothing Nixonian (or even Bushian, for that matter). The information that Mayor Taylor requested was available to anyone who asks for it and/or knows where to look…”

Michlig then referred to Greg’s blog filled with angst and consternation, “Alleged corruption with the Mayor's office: Holy crap...” as “rather breathless.”

Greg didn’t like that, and left a comment on John’s blog:

"Breathless," John?”

To which John replied:

“Once you exclaim ‘Holy crap!’, it is reasonable to characterize the item as ‘breathless,’ don't you think?”

That brought this clever retort from Greg:

“This is definitely a holy crap moment, John. 125% holy crappage.”

Now you can’t get more analytical, more insightful, more astute than:

“This is definitely a holy crap moment, John. 125% holy crappage.”

That’s why I repeat…..
