When will FranklinNOW get around to reporting on ...

The Franklin Common Council meeting that took place on Tuesday night. I’m posting this blog early Wednesday evening. If a reporter covered the meeting, when will a story be published?

Tonight?

Thursday?

Friday?

Later?

A little after 5:00 this afternoon (Wednesday) John Rasche, the latest FranklinNOW millennial reporter wanna-be to cover Franklin government posted a tweet:

John Rasche @Rasche_NOW

Just wrote "the delay is due to a delay" in a draft. Boy, do I need to take a nap. Or another cup of coffee. Who's to say? That about says it all.

news

: new information or a report about something that has happened recently

: information that is reported in a newspaper, magazine, television news program, etc.

: someone or something that is exciting and in the news

And from mediacollege.com:

The word news means exactly that - things which are new. Topics which are current are good news. Consumers are used to receiving the latest updates, and there is so much news about that old news is quickly discarded.

A story with only average interest needs to be told quickly if it is to be told at all. If it happened today, it's news. If the same thing happened last week, it's no longer interesting.
