1) Palestinians look at an unexploded Israeli shell that landed on the main road outside the town of Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on Friday, as a cease-fire that went into effect only hours earlier crumbled.  Photo: Reuters

2) Palestinian protesters run after Israeli troops fired tear gas during clashes at a demonstration against the Israeli offensive in Gaza, outside Israel's Ofer military prison near the West Bank city of Ramallah August 1, 2014. Israel declared a Gaza ceasefire over on Friday and killed more than 50 Palestinians in renewed shelling, saying militants had breached the truce shortly after it began and apparently captured an Israeli soldier. The 72-hour break announced by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was the most ambitious attempt so far to end more than three weeks of fighting, and followed mounting international alarm over a rising Palestinian civilian death toll. Each ceramic poppy represents an allied victim of the First World War and the display is due to be completed by Armistice Day on Nov. 11, 2014. After Armistice Day, each poppy from the installation will be available to buy for 25 GBP (about $42).  Photo: Oli Scarff / Getty Images

6) Baffled locals who used to boast that they had one of the healthiest rivers in China because there were no factories along its banks were baffled when within the space of an hour the river turned a deep, dark red. Clear plastic bottles dipped into the water at Xinmeizhou village in Cangnan County in eastern China's Zhejiang province quickly filled up with the red-colored liquid which had a strange smell, according to villagers. Local Na Wan said, "A few people that were up and about at 5 a.m. said that everything was normal but then suddenly within the space of a few minutes the water started turning darker and eventually was completely red. Environmental experts were on the scene taking samples of the water and said that they suspected it was discharged from a dye factory even though there was none in the area.
