This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely young daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Franklin property taxpayers, did you get a 2.07% salary increase this year?


I didn’t think so.

Too bad you don’t work for the Franklin Public Schools. From the minutes of the June10, 2013 Franklin School Board meeting:


10. Human Resources Approval Items

Action: A. Ratification of the 2013-2014 Wage Agreement between the Franklin Public School District and Secretary, Office Assistant and Educational Assistant (SOEA) Bargaining Unit (Action Item)

There was a motion to ratify the Secretaries/Office Assistants and Educational Assistants' 2013-2014 Wage Agreement that provide s a 2.07% wage increase, pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 111.70.

 

Motion by Debbie Larson, second by Melissa Klein.

Final Resolution: Motion Carries

Yea: Tim Nielson, Melissa Klein, Debbie Larson, Aimee Schlueter

Nay: Janet Evans, Linda Witkowski, Alan Aleksandrowicz

 

Action: B. Ratification of the 2012-2014 Wage Agreement between the Franklin Public School District and Custodial Bargaining Unit (Action Item)

There was a motion to ratify the Custodians' 2013-2014 Wage Agreement that provides a 2.07% wage increase, pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 111.70.

 

Motion by Tim Nielson, second by Melissa Klein.

There was a motion to approve a 2.07 wage increase for distribution to the non-represented employees for the 2013-2014 school year.

A 2.07% increase may sound like paltry peanuts. But consider the recent recession, high unemployment, people losing their jobs, benefits, and homes, and private sector employees going years without a salary hike and suddenly tossing around increases to government employees sounds mighty generous, whatever the percentage.

The current crop of tax and spend-happy Franklin school board members clearly doesn’t get it.
