The Barking Lot-America's Finest Dog Blog (02/09/13)

The Barking Lot

The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of this just inWritten by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me.  It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then its DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY:  Partly cloudy. High of 32. It will feel nicer, but we have all that snow and ice to contend with. "F"

SUNDAY:  Wake up to freezing drizzle followed by rain showers by noon. Showers will end before 6 pm. High of 39. "F"

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

Sometimes I think Valentine’s Day is almost more pathetic for guys than Christmas.  For
Christmas gifts you should be thoughtful and observant as to what your special gal would like.  For Valentine’s gifts the pressure to be romantic but not sleazy, sweet but not cloying, and caring-yet-daring can be too much for a man to bear.  Of course the single guys have it even worse because there is the added pressure of popping the question.

I think we women have it easier.  Not only are we generally intuitive and observant as to what our significant others would appreciate, we don’t have to fork over a couple carats in a blue box with a white ribbon.  But I digress.

Male or female, if you’re a dog owner chances are you’ll be pampering your pooch come February 14.  I don’t see anything wrong with showering your four-legged friend with a bit of extra affection on V-day.  They give us so much and ask for so little in return.  And honestly they don’t care about cut, color and clarity in a squeaky toy.

The majority of information out there is how pet owners are going over-the-top for another holiday season.  But it doesn’t have to be that way.  Not only is your dog happy just to be with you and get an extra belly rub, there are several gift options that will set you back less than 30 smackers.

Owners tend to be aware and careful during the Christmas season that their dogs don’t get into things they shouldn’t such as people foods & treats, the water in the tree holder, and ornament hooks.  But you might not give as much thought to Valentine’s Day.  So here are some simple reminders to keep Fido as happy as Cupid.

Have a happy and love-filled Valentine’s Day!

---Jennifer Fischer
