Culinary yes-yes #11

There’s not much I like about this time of year.  The only upside is that my seasonal allergies hibernate like the rest of me wants to.  Truly, I hate winter.  But if not for arctic temperatures there is one thing I’d miss terribly:  ice wine.  Fortunately I don’t have to harvest those frozen orbs in order to enjoy the end result.

A few years ago (pre-daughter) we combined a traditional trip to Walt Disney World with a seven-day Disney cruise.  It was an over-the-top experience for many reasons, not the least of which was the food.   While our dining rooms rotated, our wait staff was the same the entire time.  It was a wonderful way to build a relationship; like good friends who are also good hosts, they knew what we enjoyed from appetizers to desserts.  By the second night our head waiter understood we were ice wine lovers and suggested that a better value was to purchase a bottle to would follow us from dining room to dining room for the rest of the week.  Who were we to argue?  It paired so deliciously well with what ever desserts we ordered.

As I mentioned at the start of this post I detest snow, ice, lack of sun, and temperatures with a minus sign.  But if this particular season can yield a heavenly elixir then I guess for a moment I can embrace the cold.

I’ve had some delicious ice wines, and generally have the good fortune to be able to order Inniskillin varietals as mentioned in the above article.  If you’d like to learn more I suggest taking a look at their website, especially the “ice wine and food” section.

Wine that beautifully compliments desserts or even serves as dessert?  Oh, yeah, a complete Culinary Yes-Yes.

How ‘bout a different formula for Ice + Wine?
