Ms. Elaine Kneeous

Jennifer is a one in a million stay-at-home mom. (More like one OF a million stay at home moms!) She graduated from a liberal arts college but there is nothing liberal OR artsy about her. She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. Follow her blog of all things miscellaneous including but not limited to cooking and baking, entertaining and party planning, being a mommy, and homekeeping.

Oh, yes, this will just take an hour to clean up...

What's YOUR Family Budget?

When Kevin & I were planning our married life we talked about our future budget like many couples do.  We decided that we would count only on Kevin’s salary for everything including our mortgage, monthly expenses and even travel.  My salary was considered for miscellaneous non-necessities only.  We felt this was the best approach for us because we knew someday we’d be parents, and that I would most likely stay home with our baby.  The last major purchase I made when I was still working full-time was everything for Kyla’s nursery, including her bedroom set.  We’ve always had the “ours” mentality not the “hers and his” mentality with our finances but I was proud that I was able to independently furnish our baby’s sweet suite.

So... Do I Work, or Not?

Mother’s Day is approaching.  My May edition of Good Housekeeping arrived the other day, and there are some great features about moms.  Stores are displaying mom-centric gift ideas, and commercials are already starting to remind you to get gifts for the special women in your life.

Seen this weekend in my subdivision...

Yesterday, driving home, I noticed some neighbor children had set up the classic roadside drink stand, complete with a sign.  I thought it would say the same as many others:  “Lemonade, 25 cents.”  Instead this sign read, “Free Kool Aid.”

Justifiable Homicide... at Sendik's?

I enjoy shopping at the Franklin Sendik’s any time, but my favorite time of day is around 7:30 am.  Everything is fresh & sparkling; the bakery is well-stocked; the salads and other deli items are extra neat; produce is just-iced-down.

Kyla's Korner

Like most moms, I have a circle of friends who feel the same way I do:  we love our kid(s); we work hard to keep them happy and healthy; we worry about them.  There are times we wish we could literally put them in a bubble to prevent illness or injury.

Not just in Cleveland...

Will Angelina Jolie still cause a stir when SHE is 90 years old?  I highly doubt it.  She’s a Hollywood darling now but I don’t see her talents & beauty stretching another 50-plus years (at least without a LOT of help from cosmetic enhancements & a great publicist.)

From the "Why didn't I think of that?" file

I have always loved the amazing things that you can do with Mason jars. The possibilities are only limited to your own creativity (or that of others that you steal.)

Something to ponder this Earth Day

“Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.”

Time really DOES fly!

Kyla's Korner

I admire creative, artistic people no matter what genre:  literary, culinary, musical, visual arts, etc.  When you combine a thoughtful parent with time, talent, thoughtfulness and creativity you get a video montage that chronicles the first twelve years of his daughter’s life.  It’s lovely and any parent out there is sure to appreciate this work of art.  Thank you, Frans Hofmeester!

Get a mocha at The Mouse House

Kevin & I have been to Walt Disney World (what we affectionately refer to as The Mouse House) approximately 20 times.  If anyone thinks that WDW is just for people with kids they have no idea what they are talking about.

A new twist on The Bucket List

I have said on more than one occasion that “in my next life” I would be a party stylist.  For me there are too many parties to host and too little time to host them.  If I were an event stylist I could plan ‘til my heart’s content; working with clients to create magical moments for their family and friends would be an incredible (although at times frustrating, and certainly tiring) line of work.

Now what national "Week" is it?

Kyla's Korner

I’m not anti-TV despite the fact there are more cable channels we pay for than we will ever want to watch.  Years ago, when I had time to enjoy the Food Network there were several programs I tuned in to regularly.  I think Kevin would be in the fetal position during March Madness if not for ESPN.  Honestly that’s about the extent of our viewing.  I’ve never, and I mean NEVER turned on OWN.  (It’s a matter of principle.)  95% of news broadcasting is a (liberal) joke.  Reality TV?  Gag.  The previously mentioned “old” Food Network has turned into its own version of reality programming.  I could go on.
