Resolutions? WHAT resolutions???!!!

 

This is the case for so many of us.  Quite frankly that’s why I never “resolve” to exercise.  Why set myself up for failure?  I’ll admit it right here, right now.  I hate to exercise, I have no intention of ever becoming a fitness fanatic and I’ve pretty much come to terms with the fact that I will never grace the cover of a Victoria’s Secret catalog.

I think resolutions can be a good thing… if you don’t set yourself up for failure.  As you’re polishing off the last of the bubbly & appetizers on 12/31 don’t tell the world that you’re going to lose 20 pounds in the first month of the New Year.  Be realistic.  Why not set a reasonable objective of losing 10 pounds by June 1 instead?

On the other hand as any goal-setting guru will tell you, the goal must be measurable.  If you state that you will try to be healthier in 2013 what exactly do you mean?  A goal I am setting for myself this year is to drink the recommended amount of water each day.  I will admit I am a terrible, “lazy” water drinker.  According to one calculation I should consume 80 oz. of liquid a day from all sources including fruit juices, decaf coffee or tea, water, etc.  Personally I’ll be happy with myself if I consistently consume the “standard” 64 oz.

So, be realistic and measurable with your resolutions for 2013.  Because really, do you want to be among these statistics:  Studies show the average resolution lasts only a few days for more than half of us. By three months, nearly 19 out of 20 resolutions have dropped off the chart.
