Ms. Elaine Kneeous

Jennifer is a one in a million stay-at-home mom. (More like one OF a million stay at home moms!) She graduated from a liberal arts college but there is nothing liberal OR artsy about her. She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. Follow her blog of all things miscellaneous including but not limited to cooking and baking, entertaining and party planning, being a mommy, and homekeeping.

Maybe there is still time to enter Patricia Krentcil in some contests

Although Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, there are hopefully still some contests that are open.  Truly a “Mother of the Year” candidate.  Wow.

Cupcakes & Coworkers

I’ll admit, I’m a bit (OK, a lot) envious of bloggers who provide the rest of us with great recipes, great photos, and great reading.  If I didn’t love the Cookbook Queen, I might hate her.  I want to make all her baked treats.  Every.  Single.  One.  Her recipes and her food styling are fantastic and I dare you not to laugh at her stories.

Would you like to live in a 144 square foot home?

My senses were feeling assaulted today:  there’s a reason the U.S. military used Barney’s “I Love You” as a form of torture.  Fisher-Price plastics littered the floor.  I didn’t find the weather pleasant enough to open windows.  I don’t remember what I ate for breakfast.  And what could have been a luxurious shower before Kyla got up turned into my usual frenetic sudsing.

Moms of ALL species can be celebrated

Kyla's Korner

People either think they are beautiful, or a nuisance.  They either want them protected, or exterminated.  They find their calls musical or annoying.

Here's to moms...

Kyla's Korner

Every year, my mom would recount a past Mother’s Day conversation she had with a friend.  Although she possessed some very good qualities, Dorothy was an extremely materialistic woman and could speak without thinking.  She asked my mom what she got for Mother’s Day and mom proudly explained that I had made her a hand print on a cork disk to hang on the wall.  “That’s all you got was a hand print?  I got a brand new T.V.”  Well let me tell you, that hand print meant more to my mother than any electronic device.  I highly doubt Dorothy held on to her T.V. years after it stopped working for sentimental value.  My handprint, however, was safely tucked into a memory box that held dozens of other “money can’t buy” treasures for my mom.

Danger ahead if you see these signs...

Kyla's Korner

I know I am biased.  I think my daughter is the most beautiful creature God ever put on this planet.  Every parent thinks their daughter is the prettiest thing they’ve ever laid eyes on.

Your Nose Knows.

The first “real, adult” trip I ever took was to England, the year I graduated from college.  It was a long-time dream to visit that country and I figured I had certainly earned it.  Never one to travel lightly, I had to find as many mini bottles as I could to ensure all my girly toiletry needs were met.  I found a travel-sized bottle of Liz Claiborne’s Realities perfume and snapped it up.  It was the first time I’d be wearing that particular scent and saved it exclusively for my vacation.

As I’ve said in my bio and my blog, I love wine.  So, I could certainly call myself an oenophile.

Nothing Less Than Tiffanys

I’ve blogged about my amazing niece Kari.  Really:  if I posted her photo, marriage proposals in the comments section would come flooding in at such a rate that it would freeze FranklinNOW.com.

A Day To Remember and Give Thanks

Who’s looking forward to Memorial Day?  Most families:  they are marking the unofficial start of the vacation season.  Many workers:  a 2008 survey documented that 97% of employers offer Memorial Day as a paid holiday.  Grocery stores:  surely they see an increase in food sales.

Good Cop, Bad Cop

LONG before we were expecting our baby, I told our friends and family:  Kevin is going to be the “cool” Daddy and I’m going to be the mean, disciplinarian Mommy.  Well, maybe not mean but certainly not the one our child would go to when they wanted to stay up later than usual, have an extra candy bar, or get the latest and greatest toy purchased for them.  We weren’t finding out the gender of our baby in advance.  Still, I knew that if we had a girl it would be even worse.

Food (and tunes) for thought

Maybe it’s my years of piano lessons that will always be in my heart.  Maybe it’s my love of anything with a theme.  Maybe it’s being married to someone who appreciates music as much as I do.  And maybe it’s because I’ve been lucky enough to eat in a lot of restaurants.  In any case, I notice what music is playing as I eat.   While it isn’t the deal-breaker if I return, it certainly plays a role in my enjoyment of the meal.  An obvious example is when I’m at an ethnic restaurant.  Call me crazy but I like the background sounds to correspond with the décor and cuisine.
