“Tonight, in this election, you, the American people, reminded us that while our road has been hard, while our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up, we have fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the
“I want to thank every American who participated in this election, whether you voted for the very first time or waited in line for a very long time. By the way, we have to fix that. Whether you pounded the pavement or picked up the phone, whether you held an Obama sign or a Romney sign, you made your voice heard and you made a difference.”
President Obama on Election Night.
“There's nothing worse than when you think you're going to win, and you don't. It was like a sucker punch.”

“I certainly didn’t need the job, and I guess I’m not going to get it. And I don’t need anything more on my resume, because I already accomplished more than anybody from Elroy ever thought I could. I ran for the right reasons, ladies and gentlemen, because I care so much, just like you. I thought sure we were going to win, and I thought we were going to win easily,” he said. “I had no doubts in my mind when I woke up this morning that we were going to win the election. "Gabby would trade her own life for one you took on that day. Every day is a continuous struggle to do the things she was once so very good at. Mr. Loughner, you may have put a bullet through her head but you haven't put a dent in her spirit and her commitment to make the world a better place. You have decades upon decades to contemplate what you did. But after today, after this moment, here and now, Gabby and I are done thinking about you.”
Mark Kelly, husband of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who was shot by Jared Loughner. Kelly was speaking directly to Loughner at his sentencing this week. By pleading guilty, Loughner received a life sentence for his shooting rampage in January 2011 that killed six people and wounded 13, including then-U.S. Representative Giffords (D.-Ariz.).
