Words A Mom Doesn't Want To Hear
“Mom, I just don’t feel sexy enough.”
If your adult daughter tells you this soon after she’s given birth, or because she can’t fit in to a cocktail dress for your son-in-law’s office party well, that’s one thing.
But would you want it to fly out of your first-grader’s mouth?
To be clear: I’m not a man-bashing, overall-wearing, Barbie Doll-hating Feminazi. I wear skirts and high heels when we go out to dinner as a family. I like to look pretty and girly for my husband. I am a grown woman who makes these choices for myself.
If, in just four short years, Kyla thinks she’ll be wearing thong underwear to school she’s going to be in for a rude awakening. I can’t stop pop culture from being everywhere. But I can stop what it does to our innocent daughter. She’ll grow up fast enough and soon enough. Kevin and I will do our very best as parents to mold a self-confident, self-sufficient and smart young lady.
She’s welcome to borrow my lipstick, my perfume and maybe my shoes. When she’s 16. NOT 6. Articles like this just make my blood boil. What are we doing to our most precious commodity?
It’s up to us, Moms and Dads. What’s going to be under YOUR Christmas tree this year? A package for your daughter from here
