SUNDAY:  Scattered thunderstorms. High of 68.  "B"

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

So, all week long you’ve been wondering:  “Did Jennifer really get her dog from Kevin for Sweetest Day?  Did he finally cave?  Was the dog an ‘anniversary of our engagement’ present?  How will this affect The Barking Lot?”

Well, my friends and loyal readers.  Wonder no more!  I will tell you exactly what that darling husband of mine did…  In great de-tail!

Are you sitting down?

Are you now?

OK.  He’s pretty good at surprising me, even after all these years.  I thought I might have had him figured out this time.  Remember how I said he wouldn’t propose on a specific holiday?  Remember how I thought he wouldn’t give me a dog ON Sweetest Day?

I was right.

And he didn’t bring home a puppy any other day this past week, either.

I’m guessing he was afraid I’d do something new-dog-owner-crazy relative to Halloween.  But just because I blogged about Halloween ideas for your pup  doesn’t mean I would costume our canine.

I will admit I can’t help but laugh at the site of a dog dressed as a lobster in a pot of water or as the classic “hot dog.”  I know I’m not the only one who finds these costumes amusing.  Even during these tough times, pet parents are shelling out plenty to dress their pampered pooch.

So while I chuckle at a Chihuahua as a Chiquita, would I dress my dog for the season?  Probably not.  I would most likely choose a bandana or ribbons in orange & black.  I recall the dogs from my youth not being too thrilled with any sort of embellishments when I would try to “decorate” them for a particular season.  While I don’t think it would cause permanent psychological damage to my doggie, I guess I just don’t see the point.

I would never criticize anyone who chooses to dress their dog.  But the future Fischer pup will most likely remain pleasantly plain.
