From the Fourth

Alderman Taylor has been a Franklin resident since he purchased his home in 2006. He was elected to the Common Council in April of 2008 and has served as Common Council President since he was elected. Alderman Taylor was also elected to the La Crosse Common Council in 1997 at the age of 21. Steve is employed by COUNTRY Financial as a Financial Representative.

Response to Full-time Mayor Spin by Local Blogger

It is no shock to me that my biggest critic who has planted himself on this site is against the referendum question I am proposing to the city. I appreciate the fact that he took time out of his busy schedule to read my previous blog and even find the time to count the number of words in it.

I amazed to learn that this individual has the power to read minds. It is the only way he could know my thought process or my intentions. I know that he isn’t hearing things firsthand because I have only spoken to him briefly on two occasions and I have never seen him at a Common Council meeting.

This person brings up the smoking ban. I have addressed this issue in the past but sometimes one becomes forgetful so I will remind the “mind reader”. Before the smoking ban came into effect I never once looked at brining something before the Common Council banning smoking in bars and restaurants. Doing so could have had the potential to drive patrons to our neighboring cities and in doing so harm our local businesses.  If a smoke free environment was to come to the City of Franklin it would have to be in the form of a County law or a State law. End of topic!!!

Finally, my belief that Franklin should have a full-time mayor is NOT about me. I have no plans on running for mayor in 2011. The only way I would consider running is if the current mayor doesn’t and the only choice is one of a few individuals who I believe would set the city back a decade. I will not mention any names but I am sure that some may know exactly who I am talking about.

I do have every intention of seeking re-election for the fourth district. Tough opposition….we will have to wait and see. Who could it be? A former alderman? A current candidate for the State Assembly? I am sure whoever it is will get support from those who have lost their grip on city hall.

In the upcoming months I will do my best to get information out to the voters in order for them to make an informed decision. I will have one vote just like every person who goes to the polls on November 2nd. The citizens will tell us how they feel and we will proceed according to their wishes.

  1. Sounds like something the full time mayor could work on.

But thanks for making my point FTP. Any development along 27th street
benefits Oak Creek more than Franklin. Probably always will.

Maybe Franklin shouldn't be so quick to focus their resources there.
  2. Mark, how do you plan on doing that. It is a CASH COW for Oak Creek. Oak Creek would actually have to agree to that. Then it has to be approved by the State legislature. Do you really think either of these scenarios are going to happen.

Anyone who thinks that Oak Creek is going to give that area up must really be hitting the happy hours at the Buckhorn!
  3. Or ......................get the Oak Creek school district out of FRANKLIN so
FRANKLIN can collect the $chool tax generated by Wallmart, NML, Lowes etc.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  4. Boy Mark we might as well just let Oak Creek annex that part of Franklin and we can get rid of Steve Taylor as much of his 4th district pays taxes to the Oak Creek - FRANKLIN School district.

    OR

Maybe now is the time to get rid of the Franklin School district and just merge completely with the Oak Creek - FRANKLIN School district.

    Hmmmmmmmm
  5. To FTP,

Development along 27th has no immediate tax benefit to the Franklin city
tax rate because it is a 20 Yr. TIF District.

And the City tax is nothing next to the school tax.

The biggest increases you will ever see in your tax bill will be the school
    tax.

Everything that happens on 27st So. of Rawson Ave. benefits Oak Creek
    Schools.

    Think 76th street instead.
  6. irked, are you another disguised K-Fisch lover? What makes Alderman Taylor
like Feingold? He's supported squelching first amendment rights? He voted to
defund the Iraq war? He's supporting obamacare? Which is it?
  7. MarkLundon,

Your response is 100% correct..... However 1) This area does pay CITY property taxes 2) Alderman Taylor only has control over the City portion of the property taxes. After we have spent time, and money getting NM and the Wheatons to come to Franklin to add to the City's property taxes we need to promote this area and make sure it is not just a row of No-Tell motels, a ramshackle empty Mexican Restaurant, Peko Petes TV service. Alderman Taylor needs to get off of dead center to get more development on his side of the street instead of wasting his time looking for a full time job as Mayor.
  8. Taylor sounds just like Feingold ! Get him out !! By the way I enjoy
Franklin just the way it is !!
  9. Mom,

NML is on the West side of 27th but all the school taxes go to Oak Creek.
  10. Steve,
The fact of the matter is that Franklin needs TAX RELIEF and we need it NOW.
This community has sat back long enough and blamed its problems on the "economy stupid" The other fact of the matter is that Oak Creek is going gangbusters compared to Franklin in terms of economic development. What is being done to bring development from the east side of 27th street to the west side? The City should be laying groundwork and building relationships to bring business into the Franklin once the economy turns around. Who is working on this?

I don't think a full-time mayor is the answer to this.
