A sinking economy, combined with heavy competition, is leading one of two Sendik's supermarkets in Franklin to shut down after just one year of business, the store's co-owner said Tuesday.
The Franklin School Board has decided to save money by eliminating busing for private school students. Instead, payment will be made to parents who will then have to find other transportation.

Oak Creek's parade begins at 9 a.m. at Edgewood School, 8545 S. Shepard Ave., and will wind its way to East Middle School, 9330 S. Shepard Ave. The American Legion Post, 9327 S. Shepard Ave., will host a variety of fun activities, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tee-ball and baseball games will be played from 1 to 4 p.m. Fireworks are at dusk. Check out a full schedule of events.

Fun on the FourthFranklin's Lions Legend Park, at Loomis and Drexel, will host the city's Independence Day festivities. The children's parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and the main parade at 11 a.m., both at Loomis and Forest Hill. The route proceeds north on Loomis Road to Drexel Avenue and on to the fire station. Fireworks are at 9:30 p.m. Check out a complete schedule of events, which begin on July 2.
